Well you know how to layer shades properly and thats the hardest part (imo) but I find that its best to either do observations indoors with controlled light if your going to spend allot of time on it, the lights color changes allot during the day. I kinda cheat and use what i know to help while Im working since I have trouble actually seing some colors as what they really are. (Colors appear to be different based on their surroundings) Dont start with skin though, do something smooth and flat so you can focus on the color and not the shapes
good luck mate ^^
best subject ever....
2 layers, one for crayon and paper, other for the decal
Didn't want to start out with skin tones like someone said, and fruits were out of the question, so I did this. It wasn't even intimidating, just fun again
Next ill do cloth.
Oh i started a project sort of on my moddb page, ch+-
eck it out and/or friend me

That's better. More little studies. I used to put fruit next to my computer to draw, sometimes using large white paper to cut the background down. Now when do we get to see a self portrait?
Kate, many people talk a lot, but I think you were doing great with those figures (in my opinion from the mind is better). It´s good to reduce it to simple polygons in perspective and then focus hard in the proportions, that´s how all the masters teach it. Studying could be good to learn how to paint I think, since you don´t have to focus that much in the drawing per se, you can just work harder on the technique.
The SB is looking really good, but it´s no way near the fantastic nickname.
Meh week.Drawing as usual, but getting stumped at digital painting.
I sketch and stuff but when I start to block it in I get unmotivated to do it (forgot sat word that means dont want to do it anymore XD) and gave up entirely. I dont know how to fix this. Maybe I should work on greyscale some more. Oh and I found a use for my moldable eraser, make a torso and sketch it. Awsome right? Im doing faces with it now (mad angry sad screaming) its SO USEFUL. It helped my on my anatomy as well. Maybe I should buy some clay and work with that some, i had fun molding the stuff. Wish I was less lazy/tired so I could scan my progress (next time).
2 days ago I worked on this ugly furry thing just messing with colors. So ugly, I wanted to draw a ferret but It ended up a raccoon. So cool.
The clay sounds like a nice idea! Looking forward to seeing what you can come up with. By the way the crayon turned out nice, do more of those!
great studies! I love you drawings.

I would really love some honest critiques and improvements suggestions
Renewed Study - I'm drawing again!!
This week hasn't been the most productive for me.
Im trying to work on my digital painting methods. Im having such a hard time.
Otherwise my sketches have been getting better.
Now a days things from my head cant pop out to the paper as well. Clothes need to be done. On people.
But it came out surprisingly well. So thats what I did so far
O i did a portrait for someone at school (on looseleaf) but they took it away from meeeeee!!! But it was pretty good so im thinking about doing my own portrait, soon enough....soon....
*sigh* have to work harder :/
oh my god i fixed itttt!
OK so first i was like ugh this is stupid im never going to get better.
THEN i changed some preferances with my tablet, ( I tend to press hard on my canvas)
THEN I found a pattern in which I could work efficiently
THEN I found a whole new better (free) program to use. And that fixed it permanently. (hopefully)
Ugh finally painting is fun again, and not a drag, people were right, gimp is a pain in the ass.
Gots to do some more still lives, but omg im so happy! I can do realistinc things without it being a drag, AND I dont have to practice greyscale! yay.
Oh and Im on a concept team with a company My life is good.
Lately ive been feeling like i wasnt going to make it. But all I really have to do is practice because I have the skill and the time to do it, just have to put my mind to it!
Oh and im not quite done with the ugly guy, was in a rush, but ill finish him soon.
I started a paintover for you, but it kinda got a bit weird...
I really think you should work on your colours. I'm not sure if it was intentional but the guy is incredibly pale and muddy. You need to bump up the saturation in places to bring out the features! Also, using black as a shadow colour is never a good choice. More observations from life would be the best way to get some practical experience with real world lighting

More stuff, I did this ship but I kept on re-jepging the jpeg, so its really crappy quality.
Oh and I did this thing, its for a guys game, Idk if hes still going on with it, but ill continue making concepts anyway
You've had the Easter break to do a ton of stuff. Do not neglect drawing simple objects as the work you do on them will show in your figures. More traditional and less digital if you want to learn properly. Leave your digital stuff for fun. Every gain you make with pencil will pay off a lot more each time you use digital. You're still 16 and want to try everything; we're here to slow you down and make you think.
I recently went to a school disco with my SB. Top age 11 and they didn't stay still, the light was awful, but I still had a load of fun trying to capture bits of it. Go sit in a corner of MacDonalds and sketch.
Where you been? =p
Ah black...you caught me... I have been doing more traditional works over the break XD
Ive been far away from my pad so I decided to pick up water color and acrylics
The Pastel is the oldest and ugliest one ive done so far in the month.
I did my self portrait yesterday....Im 7...sorry to ruin the suspense.
All others are watercolor and those 2 guys are a water color study.
I think I have some sketches nearby tho.
Alright I got some decent sketches to show you.
They are from oldest to newest enjoy
Oh and Ive been in hiding for some time now...so I dont upload as often, but I do want to be more active in the forums. This place is actually nice.
I like. The studies are moving in the right direction and it shows in the rest. And we are nice here once you get used to people telling the truth about your work.
I think im fixing my problem with the brushes with the digital painting.
Once in a blue moon, the copper kid comes to play...
Semi-study of a penny, it was so small though so....

Hi Kate. Looking through your stuff here, it seems like you stop a lot of your drawings and studies before you get into any detailing. You could use some more edge refinement as well.
Your work shows a lot of potential, and you are a lot better than I was at 16. I expect you'll be doing some pretty interesting work in a few years.
Hey, Thank you all for your input.
Ive managed to aquire a personal computer (a very very personal computer) so I want to dive more into digital work, since im struggling with coloring and finishing projects.
I was going to get lazy and post 1 thing, but since I do DO work, ill post some notable works from these last 2 weeks.
Werewolf is in pastel (UBER HARD)
Old man study in straight ball point pen
That ugly critter is in sharpie and pen.
The newest one (hands) Ive done tonight. SO enjoy
Black spot...you seem to have the oddest timing... I was going to post something today o.o
Hers a pencil sketch of my dad (hes 50)
and my cat
They both took about 20 minutes and the photo quality is not superb.
I want to get better at my pencils studies though. It would be nice to dive into colored pencils for a change and work on my colors for a bit. Any advice to that would help
Yea digital seems to be hard, but I just have to remember to warm up every so often, because I have been making progress with it (however slow and tedious it is)
I want to join a teen challenge before I turn 20 >.<
