    "A memory..."

To be perfectly honest, this is an old piece. But it's one of the very few I'm still satisfied with, as it rendered the exact mood I was aiming to, simple and straightforward; so I thought I could profit from your own honest thoughts/critics about it.

    Many thanks in advance.

Oh. What a lovely little painting.

I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).

This piece has a nice, dream-like quality to it. My one crit...the dark horizontal line near the figure's left arm at first read like rope or string to me...like the figure was tied to the wall. I had another crit, but upon further review I was wrong.

The flood...was it scary or fun, like an adventure?

    My portfolio

Would you like to see my drawr-rings?

Will design for food, provided that we all agree that money is edible.

That line was a mistake, indeed: I screwed that up, somehow; had forgotten about it (thanks).

About the setting: the flood was an utter tragedy, which the idea of a "giant pool" turned into a game in the mind of a kid who had never even used a tub before (as he was rather poor and his bathing kit always consisted of the tray and sponge shown below). I got this idea from a dream, indeed: I was reading/visualizing an illustrated children's book (that doesn't exist), in which an old man talked about his childhood memories; only years after making the drawing, giving it a bit more thinking, the two probable real references for this picture became clear:

    1. Something I saw once about the people of the Amazonia (and some places at my own country): their houses do get inundated with the annual flooding of the river and, since they're used to it, the children play inside the house like if it was a pool themed amusement park.

    2. One of Tenniel's original illustrations for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, featuring the "pool of tears".
