Waldo's daily* sketches and paints v2.0

YES, I'm doing it! I'm back!

I made a promise to myself to draw every day for at least an hour. Here now, a week later, I did good so far
The hardest part is starting to draw, once I'm in, I'm in for good and suddenly it's 3am.

I have an older sketchbook, which I used during my game dev course (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=120375)

    Portfolio website: http://www.waldobronchart.be/

I'll be doing pencil sketches, photoshop sketches and paints. Mainly anatomy and facial expressions.

Wish me luck, here's the first batch!

EDIT: moved attachments to second post so I can edit thumbnail easier

    Thanks.

Here's some more quick poses from Posemaniacs 30". It's still brutally fast for me :o

Here's one I did from photo reference as a colour study. I went in directly with color, no line drawing.

    More poses + hands.

I found that searching flickr for reference is quite rewarding: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=hands%20reference

Around 10-15mins per hand. I tend to erase a lot in photoshop. Eventually I get the line I want.

I started drawing some skulls from reference, but then I got bored

Then went over to drawing some kid's faces. I need to read up on those proportions!

Do I need to try some of these from imagination? I don't really feel brave enough yet

I tried one without reference in photoshop too. I think I need to do a lot more smaller ones. That's for tomorrow!

When started your drawing for the day, jsut be loose. like a warmup before a run. jsut sketch around and have fun, draw circles and things, and can have fun adn turn them into faces.

This will help you get in the mode before you start drawing the more analytical proportion studies and those things.

Also how ever long you draw divide it up 50/50. So anything you study also try to apply it from memory/imagination.

    whohooo!

    17-12-2011

Cam Sykes: Whohoo! I had a great run today. That was fantastic advice!

First I drew a page like I'm used to, tried to focus on details a bit too much

    Name: 2011-12-17_sketchbook1.jpg
Views: 102
Size: 315.5 KB

And then I started following your advice. I drew circles and tried being loose about my lines. The great thing is that I learned not to always use the sharp end of my pencil, thick lines really work + it allows me to draw very lightly to start off with.

I'll still need to look at reference to get more "kinds of shapes" in my head.

    HAPPY!

I tried out some simple facial expressions + quick poses, but I got a bit lazy on the proportions.

I didn't draw much during the Christmas holidays. I need my own space for drawing, I shy!

But once I got back home I started again. It's been a while so I was rough and frustrated.

    grr, i wasn't feeling it

I wasn't enjoying pencil too much previously so got some stuff done in photoshop. I randomly picked reference from flickr and did some color study from observation.

In retrospect, it needs harder highlights. I might fix that later

I started watching Misfits and I just love the expressions on those characters. So I did some shading studies from reference. Expect more of these tomorrow!

This is the part where I normally quit adding detail because I'm scared or ruining it, but I promise I'll carry on
