    Whitesock's Book O' Stuff

Hey guys. My name is Tom Heinrichs and I'm currently an AFO student at VCU. I'm hoping to get into the Communication arts department here (which is an illustration based course) and so I am working hard on art stuff, focusing more on painting (which I enjoy so so so much more than pencil).

I don't have a lot of my stuff from the year photographed yet but I do have some watercolors and acrylics to post up here for you guys to see.

Thanks for looking and any comments/critique/help/encouraging words are very much appreciated!

    Hey,
Are they painted in plein-air or from photographs? I would encourage you to paint from direct observation instead of relying on photos. I would also get a sketchbook and pencil or ink, if you don't like it graphite, and fill the whole book with studies.

    cheers

Unfortunately from photographs, although the first one is a photo I took so at least I have a sense for what it was like there. I want to start doing plein-air and I actually just got this absolutely bitchin' silverware box from a thrift store yesterday that I am planning on macgyver-ing into a moveable paint set. I need to take some photos of my sketchbook too once I add some new stuff. Thanks for commenting!

New stuff yay! Just some sketches though.

I don't think my roommate knows I sketched him either. Success!

Missed the past few days for finals but now I am done with them! Here's my drawing final:

    Whitesock's Book O' Stuff

It got kind of graphic but anyways the prompt was a dream/nightmare that conveys a clear emotion. My nightmare was that I grew wings... but not in a happy way. It was really fun to draw though. Not a topic I normally delve into.

Nice job on the finals drawing! He defiantly doesn't look happy.
I think it could have been a bit more powerful if you had some more contrast in the values.
    Keep at it!
