    I am loving each piece. Actually you helped me really push my shading technique as well as figure out that a sharp pencil is key to a great value transition in terms of technical aspects. Looking at your forms visually also has allowed me to see a greater sense of light to dark and the mid tones in between. +5!

    JSArt: Thanks. These are drawn on 19x24 inch Bristol board. Of course, I crop them a bit for the web in order to fit the actual drawing.

    I'd say you should not leave the background like that. I'ts disturbing. These drawing lack of unity and depth. Background always plays a major role.

    It's not the point to make a finished piece. They stand alone as they are for what is intended.

    Nice to see you getting this trainging Noel. I'm seeing some nice leaps in your skill level.

    Ezion: Honestly, I'm working the figure right until the buzzer. I do try to at least suggest why the figure is situated the way they are in case it isn't clearly indicated by the pose. For the most part, however, time is tight and all of that 24 hours is spent modeling and trying to maintain a clean surface and transitions. This is the intent of the study.

    Craig D: Thanks a lot, man. I'm glad you think so. Seeing the work of other artists around here in person is a constant reminder of how deep the rabbit hole goes.

    I liked the first one and march's the best... your 2nd and 3rd months didn't show much improvement, but from there it really picked up

    A lot of the rendering has small unrendered gaps. I'm not entirely sure if this is from overworking, or the texture of the paper, or sloppiness in tehnique or what, but I suspect if you were a little more careful, and spent some time between sessions, you could get rid of them and create a better effect.

    I was noticing that too, and I wonder what it could be. Would love to avoid this in my drawings as well.

    I brought this month's figure drawing home with me to get the shadows filled in since it covers so much of the figure. I thought I'd get a quick scan of it to show what these drawings look like in early stages.

    yes, I understand what you mean..I just think the ''whole'' is the important. Background tones have a major role and importance to the figure. Background and figure are not 2 separate things. In order to get a good 3d effect of THE figure you should fix the background. There is a relationship between them..I understand that you want to get the right proportions and forms but for a complete shading you need background tones. My opinion though. Have a nice day!

    Here's an update on that figure drawing. I brought it home to work on the values and finish as much of the grunt-work on it as I can over the weekend. This means blocking in the rest of the shadow values and cleaning up some of the transitions. This can all be done without the model present. The drawing itself is moving a little slow as the model was unable to attend two sessions.
