I'm a student at CCA. CCA has one major advantage over CalArts; it gives out far more financial aid. Beyond that, CCA is at best on par with CalArts (quality of individual teachers) and in many ways far inferior to CalArts (organization of the program as a whole, average skill level of students entering the program).
If going to CCA means you'll graduate with tens of thousands of dollars fewer student loans, I'd recommend CCA. However, if money's not an issue, I'd go with CalArts.

I'm a 3rd animation student. The program itself is rather small and new and the curriculm tracks are not set up yet for very focused students. That said you learn a lot on a wide range of animation and film process. The instructors are all studio professionals and because they work at studios some may come and go. Calarts and CCA are very similar. If you wish to focus more on 2D, Calarts could be your better choice and computer 3D would be Ringling College.
