    Concept: 驚きの大山椒魚
The Giant Salamander that Startles (驚きの大山椒魚) is a youkai from the japanese Hokkaido Mountains. It is the protector of mountain rivers, surprising unsuspection fishing men, trying to scare them away. The Salamander-Youkai is generally a rather relaxed monster, but if humans appear not to be startled and scared it can become violent. However, it can not leave the river, much like the harmless salamander they turn into does not usually go ashore.

    Concept: Red Face

    SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH.

Red face is an yokai who lives in snowy mountains. It acts protecting creatures that are hunted by humans. To protect them he turns into a monkey and lure hunters, running through the snow. While in monkey form the yokai is vulnerable to human weapons, so it is common to find him injured. The monkey form is also used to attract hunters deep into the mountain, disappearing in the snow.

    Concept: Midori Tora
In the mountains of Japan lives the Midori Tora. It is a species of Japanese "obake"(shapeshifters) that can transform in between a tiger and a lizard. It changes to a lizard to camoflauge it self in the forest, and changes into a tiger to strike its meal. Its favorite food are adolescent and adult women.

    Concept: Lost in the mist
These small demons live in the mountains and take the animal form of a mountain hare. They are known to live in groups and generally mind their own business. However, they emit a ghostly mist shrouding the mountain which causes weary travelers to lose there way.

    Concept: mengu-bake

On the site of a pitched battle between rival samurai clans, pieces of armor were scattered and left to rot among the mountains. A hundred years later, villagers started noticing strange looking snow monkeys that for all intents and purposes looked normal, until they realized that their faces were indeed samurai masks that had come to life, and taken on the shape of monkeys in order to better get around.

The spirit was originally a merchant who was assaulted and killed by a band of robbers. The roobers took his eyes before executing him and now the merchant's spirit has taken the form of a goat which haunts the mountains taking the eyes of travelers he encounters.

    Concept: The Hotaka Monster
According to the legend of the Hotaka Monster, a demonic African lion with the ability to shapeshift into whatever being it consumes traveled across Asia and settled in Japan's Hotaka Mountains. This creature is most often described as a bloodthirsty yak lion hybrid. It often uses it's white hair, which it got from eating old wise men, to blend into the snowy mountains and keep itself warm. There have been many gruesome deaths around the mountain range that go unsolved. There are many reported sightings, but no proof it exists.

    Concept: Gōsutofukurou
The Gōsutofukurou is a yokai that seeks out and consumes the ghosts of small animals as well as small spirits. They tend to be solitary, and only come out at dusk. They can shapeshift into ruddily colored owls, but will not make noise.

sorry DPFX, even though your creature is so expressive in its agony and it look very evil. My vote have to go to D-art for its fur texture, its just gorgeous

Nice job this round guys! Favs are Lehman, DPFX, -D_art-, and J-sun! Voting was tough between -D_art- and J-sun, both very well presented and both fit the brief the best out of everyone's, in the end voted for -D_art- because it is conceptually more creative! Great job guys!

Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

voted for DPFX, because this one is definitly creepy and no obake you'd wand to meet.
-D-Art-, you have made a nice effort of drawing (love the fur!) and making a story, but aren't we asked to design a species here?
Chaoz, I liked your beast too, the drawing and idea is very dynamic, although not very original and the execution looks sketchy.
Dr. DK Danmage, I like your description. Why not an asian lion??

My vote goes to Zeitwolf because the creature fits very well in the japanese culture, including the monster expression and its execution.

-D_Art you voted for yourself, which is against the rules, I have subtracted a vote as a result. If you were legitimately unaware, I will allow you to reassign your vote to another entry.

thank you for warning me, i wasn't aware of this, my vote goes to Big Breakfast in my opinion he did a very original character filling the requisitions, and you can easily relate to his animal form, I also like J-Sun and Zeitwolf, wonderfull concepts

I liked all of them. Voted for Chaoz because I happen to like the animals he used best. Also because I like his impressionistic style.
