"Also please if you know the riely method feel free to do some paint overs for me because i couldn't get the likeness but i didn't get frustrated so yeah. Paint over for riley please "
Here's a quick paint over in charcoals. again, 4 values, 2 darks, 2 lights if needed. As you can see I wasn't going for likeness (as the reiley method is not intended for getting likeness but for pushing the imaginative side of things and idealizing. I wanted to push a more fighter type so I went with those characteristics and rhythms. One thing I noticed in your painting is that you TOTALLY neglected the rhythms. I think its because you are using the method more as a "one fits all type of thing". like, you are using the method as some sort of formula so you've stopped thinking about what rhythms fit the type and describe the form you want. Also, for painting in the rhythms you don't need to outline the whole rhythm but just where the shadow shows. I've seen too many people make robot people that don't fit any type except for robots when trying to put in the rhythms and the planes. (which isn't very attractive/appealing to anyone unless you have a fetish for robots...?) Anyways, I hope this helps! I've been watching you for a while and think that you have insane potential. keep it up! gogogogogogogogogogogogooooooooo!

Hey buddy, I really like your updates. I would also suggest to spent more time on observing the values. Especially when you're doing a value study.
It appears to me as if you'd just apply 2 or 3 layers of color/shades and then call it a day.
Try to spent 2-4 hours on one single value study while observing and mimicking the values of your reference as closely as possible. While doing that, try to think about the light and how it behaves (does the light hit directly? Does it bounce? If so, from where? How does the intensity change when it bounces?)
Usually, this is where the fun part in painting values starts for me.
Keep it up man!
@jmob: Try to structure what you want to say a little more. At least for me, it's really hard to read your stuff.
Sorry if what I said was too much information for you ecki. If anyone would like clarification of what I said and aren't being elitists, please ask.
Try drawing the abstraction lines on top of your ref to make it clearer to yourself how these abstraction relate to what you are looking at.

I'm a peacock, you gotta let me fly!
Lots of progress here, more understanding on every page! I really think you are doing great with putting the time in to do the studies you are doing. Just keep it up and things will just make sense more and more and look better, as they already are going in that direction!
