    Bringer - Taking the next step

    Hi! ca.org! Im Nico, im 20 years old and im from Sweden.Im currently studying 3D graphics, but i recently realized that i want to work with conceptart instead. It wasent until this summer i actually started to practise, making life studies,paintings from reference, reading artbooks etc. Im starting this this sketchbook so that i can get more critique on my work and take the next step with my art.

    I really need good critique, as i seldom get it (Not because im awesome, its because dont know much people that actually can give it to me)

    First out is a portrait im currently workings on. I used a photo as reference and its all done in PS.

    And down below is mashup between a Heavy from teamfortress 2 and the supportclass from BF3 !

    Here's another study i did today of an italian bascinet helmet.

    Im quite satisfied with the helmet overall but the chainmail is unfinished and just messy, It takes so much monotomic work to get it done. If anyone got any tips on how to paint chainmail. Please, let me know!

    Great work so far. On the portrait careful about the lighting on her clothes--that area looks really flat compared to the detail in her face.

    The metallic feel of the helmet's really good though. Keep it up!

    Im currently working alot on faces and portrait. So i challanged myself to draw one self-portrait (using a mirror as reference) each day for the whole week, and see how it turns out. Ive done 4 portraits, and this fifth one is the best so far.


    Please comment, i would really need some feedback on my faces!

    Cool stuff! Your rendering is good, keep doing studies like that one you did of the armor. There's no substitute for relentless practice.

    The main thing I would suggest for you is to work on your understanding of facial anatomy and proportions. On the most recent study, the nose seems mispositioned and the eyes are a little large. Things like proportion and anatomy are best learned from lots of observational drawing. Just keep practicing and keep posting, you're doing good so far!

    Your art is really nice! I think maybe the eyes are too big and not quite in the right place, in your self portrait i think smaller eyes would make it look more realistic. (you might just have big eyes though). In the first picture of the girl it seems as if her left eye is too far from the bridge of her nose and there needs to be more of a concave in the inner corner of the eye. What do you think?

    ebonysmith - Thank you! I dident realize until now that her eyes are way to much apart from each other.

    Kurtzund -Thats exactly my aproch right now, ive skimmed throu a few books on the subject, and im trying to observ the "shapes" of the face. And try to analyze why part of the face look like they do.


    Here's a little something ive been working on today. Im a bit proud because i dident use much reference for this. Mostly took the pose and the color from my own mind! But there is still some issues with values and especially the hand holding the ipod-thingy.

    Ive actually took the time to learn some basic perspective theory. So i painted this mobile artillery thingy.
