Rebels - Vampires and Witches (SERBIAN MYTHOLOGY)

Hey guys, it's been a while since my last post.

I have recently finished illustrations for the third, and final, book on Serbian Mythology named "Rebels", dedicated to vampires and witches.

You can find my earlier thread about second book on Serbian Mythology here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=197017

    VID THE VAMPIRE

Rebels - Vampires and Witches (SERBIAN MYTHOLOGY)

He became a vampire by drowning in a river.

(I did this painting in oils on linen.)

Vampire Vid visiting his wife and son in his former home.

(This is a small painting (9x13″), painted in oils on half-chalk ground on linen glued to a panel. Because of a closing deadline I finished it digitally.)

Rebels - Vampires and Witches (SERBIAN MYTHOLOGY)

This illustration is meant to play on our fear of dark holes, of caves, tunnels, darkness itself. Absence of presence makes suggested presence more powerful. Viewer fills the darkness with his personal fears, as opposed to me putting something I think is scary.

(I painted this in oils on half-chalk ground on linen glued to a panel, size 9x13″. )

Rebels - Vampires and Witches (SERBIAN MYTHOLOGY)

Strahinja and his rooster are looking for Vid (Strahinjas father) in the dark forest. I painted this in oils on half-chalk ground on linen glued to a panel.

Rebels - Vampires and Witches (SERBIAN MYTHOLOGY)

This was intended to be a pencil/charcoal study for a large painting, but it is included in the book. It represent an old, immortal vampire who desperately wants to die, but he cannot kill himself. He is holding a poppy flowers, symbol of eternal sleep.

    Comments and critiques are welcome.

    Hope you guys like it,
    Dragan

Inspiring work. There really wasn't any need to talk about how the dark empty door inspires our fears - the pictures do that all by themselves!

Great mood in all the pictures.

I keep coming back to this thread because that first painting (and all the others, but especially the first) is just captivating. So unsettling, I adore it.

We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is, knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.

GoldSeven – Thank you! I do believe that all those fears are archetypal, I just like to explain

Ray – You can find more about Serbian mythology at my blog, and blogs of my colleagues:
    Petar Meseldžija (http://petarmeseldzija.blogspot.com/),
    Ivica Stevanović (http://ivicastevanovicart.blogspot.com/)
    and Vanja Todorić (http://vanjatodoric.blogspot.com/).

Here are some of our threads from CA...

Unfortunately, all our books are published only in Serbian (for now).

littlebones – Thank you for kind words, and thank you for coming back.

Gpozzo – Thanks! The book is about Vampires and Witches, so I assure you in that darknes is not something nice.

    Hard Creation – Thank you!
