    Cool Unicorn Guy's Sketchbook

    Hey guys!
I'm Zach and I'm a student learning to draw and become and illustrator. I've been creeping around on the forums for the last few months and after the Crimson Daggers' Deathline challenge I decided it was about time I started a sketchbook here!

So yeah, my goals for this year for the Deathline challenge ( http://networkedblogs.com/po65x for those unsure of what I'm talking about) are:
    1) To anti-chubbify myself. I, like many others with similar goals, feel like I could become more motivated if I became more active. And, well, there's this really cool sweater I would love to be able to fit into again.
    2) To build up strong daily art related habits, like doing studies, challenging myself, and just flat out painting more. I feel like at the moment I don't give it enough practice and time to be worthy of the title "artist".
    3) To become less of a people pleaser. Not to sound like whatever or anything, but I'm pretty polite in public. Lately there have been people that are now hanging around me a bit more and think I'm their next best friend, which, not to sound like a douche, is not my intention. Not that I don't like friends. There are just some people that won't leave me alone that really should, haha.

To work on it, this month I intended to: work on studies daily for at least an hour, walk three miles daily and start to watch what I eat, and ignore certain people like the plague. So far day one has gone off well. Studied, walked, and spoke to a few people less. Day one of 365, check.

But anyway, here's the fun stuff. Studies and sketches from the last few days. Well, mostly studies this go round.

Glad you started the SB zach, good to see your goals too. My advice so far would to be confident with your lines even if theyre wrong your gonna teach yourself to be as accurate as possible first time rather than slowly scribbling until something looks right (or a mess) haha. Keep it up this is your first step!

Yesterday's and this mornings sketches and studies. Fudgeloaf showed me this awesome figure drawing site, I'll link it's awesomeness when I'm back on the computer I bookmarked it on.

Will definitely be working on lines now! I love feedback like that, thanks guys!

Back from a break. Was kinda busy with some acrylic paintings for people and a miniature pity party, haha. Not the most productive last few days D:
Been trying to pay more and more attention to lines, at first it was like trying to learn to draw again, but I'll get used to it. Will be focusing on them more, as well as more figures and heads (my biggest weakness) soon!

One day I will master the art of scanning...

    Keep it up!
Man I got to say I had a little chuckle when I saw the sp because it looks like you took a photo of your face and pasted it on the painting and then painted over it so it kinda looks funny. Because, the face looks structural and the rest isn't.

I hate to ask but did you actually do that? Because I can tell you did something weird with it.

The last one looks great! I'm wondering, though, if it might be beneficial to have a quick look at body proportions (nothing too serious, just to help you troubleshoot your figures - the woman who's stretching up, for example, has pretty short legs).
Look forward to seeing more! Hope this post gets through moderation :/ It's hard being new.

ConnyNordlund- Thanks Haha, yeah I guess it does look like that. Yep :3 Nothing weird was done to it. It does look out of place, spent much more time on the face than the body thus far. Check back later sometime after Christmas and you can see the finished version (once I have a working laptop I can use again).

grey_sequences- Thanks! Yeah, haha. Trying to tackle people and portraits. Both faces and body proportions are my biggest weaknesses ._. I'll pay more attention to it, and the legs, haha!

Well, unfortunately my laptop doesn't want to charge so its out of order for a while until I get it sent to HP for a repair... which is a huge bummer because I use it for more than half of my classes ._. and it was also what I planned doing my college application portfolio on. But, when Christmas rolls around, I get my Dell, which I'm totally looking forward too. Then I'll be able to finish that dang self portrait already. The next painting I'm working on is an acrylic piece of popcorn at 48"x60". Hoping to finish it in time to put it into a Christmas show to sell.

Hey again guys! I'm back from the world of tech problems, Santa brought me a laptop for Christmas Well, I don't have much to show from my absence. I kinda got into a funk around exam times and was a lazy a_ during the first half of the Christmas break. Now I'm going to salvage the week and a half I have left and try not to get sucked into Skyrim (thanks again Santa). I think I'm going to try to face my fear and work on faces. The laptop has a webcam, so easy references for Self Portraits

Which I attempted to do here... Chickened out when I got to the face Maybe next one will be painted...

Hey man, thanks for dropping by

Good job on the anatomy studies - I wish I was that hard working. Yeah when drawing people from life they're always moving, sucks I've given up trying to get them exactly right and just going for fairly quick ones.
