Holy shit Lumens, amazing progress here. Now you're making me feel lazy. The colors are looking fantastic on the studies, and the sketch page is fun as hell. You're rocking in here!

Hello kikindaface, thanks for the encouragement!

nicky, At the start of 2012 i have decided to not pursue artschool.
This had several reasons, one of them being that i felt like art education in nl isn't offering the classical training i prefer such as in decent ateliers.

I've added you on skype, and thanks for coming by.

    udonhead, appreciate it
I'm working on an illustration based of the snowy owl harpy idea.
after doing some research on both harpies and sirens i think i'll adapt the sirens properties to the harpies..
something about dying of starvation cause you refuse to stop listenin to siren song seems more captivating than snatching stuff away which is the original role for this creature.

Nianto, yeah got to study them drapes.

pgf95, thanks man. I've done a piece with tons of these, not nearly the same as the original designs wich where more bird like and intimidating.

Luness gave some great feedback a page or two back on that i over dramatise my characters so i'm trying to go with more subtle expressions.
they arent grinning an evil smile or screaming..somehow the slight smile is more scary when you see it after the blood and body on the right i hope.

so heres what i'm working on currently:

    By lumensart at 2012-08-27

I got some great advice from the awesome people on the crimsondaggers forums. the biggest crit was that the light source is very random, as in all over the place.

the characters in front are lighted in directions they shouldn't be.
also i am aware that the pose of the main harpy above the old man is very strange and anatomically incorrect ( extreme fortshortning)
the intention was to mimic the '' defensive posture'' of an owl.

this is quickly painted the same way the paint over looked on how to fix some of the lighting. will have to work some more on it.

getting rid of the bounce light on the right harpy makes a big difference.
now to darken the values on the other characters as the sun is hitting them from behind.

Lovely work here, the improvement over time is really inspiring.

Do you do traditional work as well as digital? What are your aims?

Anyways, I hope you keep going

    Hey mate!!
Great stuff and studies you got here!!
Why don't you experiment more traditional media? I guess you'll improve a lot!

Black Swan, Hi! My goal at the moment is to gear up for freelance illustration.
Come up with a marketing plan and to create a portfolio targeted at book cover illustration. Sadly i'm not spending enough time with traditional mediums,
i love oils in particular so i'm trying to emulate certain qualities from oil painting into my digital works.

0000, ( curious name you got there ) Thanks for dropping by and for the encouragement!

Black Sun S, Thanks! I find it a bit tricky to find the kind of art education or workshops i'm looking for in the netherlands.
I will eventualy resume oil painting and water colors when i can.
