slowly sinking.... massive floods (lots of pics)

I guess some of you might have seen it on the news to some extend but since i am affected by it directly as i reside in the flooded area i felt like sharing it with you.

There are some pretty horrible floods here in Thailand covering large masses of land, some areas are flooded for weeks already, neck high.
This is no regular ever day flood, this is by far the worst flood in the past 100 years here.

My are was flooded for 2-3 weeks now already but until today we were really lucky. My house is in a gated village and the little community did put together some coin and got us a solid wall of sand sacks at the gate and 4-5 water pumps that are working 24/7. That is what kept us dry like a little island midst the brown ocean of muddy water.
Despite being located in bangkok there were 2 crocodiles cough right outside the village on the main street...
With the water stream also a variety of fish came, just this morning the gate guard managed to catch a catfish which might me our dinner tonight.

Its not easy to get food, the only way to get out was by boat and some large wheeled military vehicles who would drop by to pick up people sometimes. Water is sold out everywhere and we are lucky to have a filter machine for tap water (while its still good)

Last night at 4 the water level outside did rise considerably and our village started flooding as well.
The picture on the left i took at 7 and the one on the right only a couple hours later... the water is invading and its only a matter of time till it will reach our door.
we tried sealing it with what we had... did want to regret not having tried.
We moved whatever we could to the second floor and now we just hope that the water will stop soon and that the electricity and internet will not be cut.

the flood in our village still looks mild but let me share some picture from other areas with you. ( i did not take those myself)

its is very very sad... There are many poor and hardworking people who lost homes, jobs and more. I am still dealing with its i think, i am having a hard time believing what i see around me not being used to natural disasters of any sort, it is a helpless feeling not being able to do anything against the water but i will try helping with some donations later when its time to rebuild, for now we are all sitting ducks.

when some areas got badly flooded peple were evacuated by boats , however most of the boats would not allow them taking their animals along...
Many abandoned their cats and dogs and there is also a vast quantity of street animals here...
unlike some floods we get in strong rain season that would normally last a matter of hours before absorbed into the ground this flood is way different as it has been going on for many weeks now.
Some people who care do rent boats and go around rescuing those animals, also renting apartments to provide shelter for the cats and dogs who would otherwise starve or drown. Many of the dogs were still chained, some locked inside flooded houses, some were found in locked cars even...

    thanks!

I am glad we still have power and internet.
The water reached the main door already, the plastic is holding so far but we are prepared to cut the power downstairs at any time and hold out on the second floor.
I still hope the water level will stop raising... please stop you stupid water.

We just bought the house and it would fuck up the new beautiful kitchen and lots of build in furniture downstairs. No insurance will pay that.

Thats sad and horrible to even think.... thinking about the precious things that can be submerged anytime.... worst I think, you can never move around out of home safely... unless you have a boat.
Whats the government and other agencies doing about this?

    Stay safe!

Goddamn, that sucks. Climate change is a bitch. I thought weather sucks in the U.S because of the earlier hurricane and because it just snowed in October but man, that's way wayyyyy worse.

    Thanks guys!

@ Slothboy3000 its all over the country. Some regions are under water for weeks already.
You can google for some flood maps, there are lots of graphs and maps online.

    @ bhaskarrac
Military has their hands busy helping and evacuating people, their large wheeled trucks can still drive in some areas where normal cars can't. some of the trucks go back and forth on a route, helping people to get out of their flooded homes to get some supplies.
There are shelters for those who lost home.

The water level is a lot higher around my house now, the door is under water but the plastic sealing is still holding and its dry inside the house. So far we were really lucky.
I only can hope that the water-level will go down below the door and that the plastic will hold.

    Thanks everyone!

    @Aryeh
Thanks for asking, but no one can really do anything at this point but hoping for the
best and we are rich on hope.
I will be able to handle the damages financially.

The water level keeps rising but is slowing down a lot. The plastic is still holding but
there are small leaks at one door.
The water is high enough for boats now and our community purchased one,
this is good news, we now can send people to buy food supplies.

I mentioned the issue with the animals in my precious post...
My GF and some of her friends did found a small group years ago, it is dedicated to help
animals because the thai government isn't very interested in that regard...
There are a couple dog shelters but they are in poor condition and there are no shelters
    for cats or anything.

So the small group did fundraising on weekends (getting little donations from people) and
donated a lot of their own money to rent housing that would function as shelter for stay cats,
also food, medical help and so on. They would on weekend try to find new homes for cats,
giving them away for free to families who seemed nice.

With time the group did grow and now with the floods in thailand they started cooperate
with other similar groups on a larger scale. Not having much money they contacted a boat
company in hopes for some discount because as you can imagine, assets like boats,
water-pumps, bottled water are expensive this days.
Once the boat manufacturer heard about their mission they did donate them 2 boats,
    one of em motorized.
They since did rescue literally hundreds of animals from flooded homes with those boats,
providing them with shelter and food. people who would spot animals stuck somewhere
call them all day. There were dogs left behind chained or locked up, forced to swim
    restlessly for days.

I will share some pictures tomorrow.

I have great respect for that and i am glad to see that some people genuinely care and actually do something about it.

Oh, I'm so sorry to see this happening - I hope your conditions improve soon and that the waters will recede! It is beautiful to see the people helping each other and even the animals in such desperate times.

Man, I've seen this kind of thing before in my home country, though I wasn't there when it happened. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for everyone. I guess the ironic thing about it is that often it takes the worst of cases to bring out the best in people. Anyway, stay safe, and hang in there. Hope the flooding stops soon.

Water got inside the house now, not high but it's there.
I didn't see it the other morning, went down and felt, so slippery.

Good luck man, I held it together looking at the pictures until I saw the little straggly cat and lost it. I can only imagine how surreal it must be to live through. My thoughts are with you too.
