The Halloween Freak preys on humans, waiting until the victim is asleep before stealthily numbing their skin with specialized saliva from its tongue. Once the topical anesthetic has gone to work, the Halloween Freak then pierces the victim with its beak, generally choosing a major artery. It has been known to pierce between the ribs and directly into the aorta. As it pierces the victim it releases more of its specialized saliva, both anesthetizing and drugging the victim to put them into a deeper sleep, as well as preventing coagulation so that it may drink at leisure. Once its round belly is engorged it will cease to feed; usually this does not happen until the victim is fully drained, but if the creature can not finish its meal for some reason, the victim will usually continue to bleed out afterwards until they die from the wound.
The Halloween Freak is most active in late October as it prepares for hibernation. Some believe that the vivid orange and black coloration are responsible for the popularity of those colors at Halloween, which occurs when the freak is most active, while others believe that it is a "chicken and egg" scenario and that the Halloween Freak was probably thus named due to its coloration.
The Jungle Bloodbag is one of the new discovered mammal species in the Amazonas. It get sticked to human natives to suck their blood and slowly drain them. In its inactive season that creature usually stays immobile inside tree trunks waiting till its body gets empty of blood, decreasing to an human hand size. When active, it becomes a frenetic creature which won´t hesitates in crazily jumping from trees or dive to stick to any person and suck up to 5 blood litres. Then its upper and lower skin bags inflate and look like a big bloodbag which can easily explode with a little pressure. When the jaws close over a skin area, it is extremely dificcult to get rid of the creature and it often needs surgery work.

The Jack 0 appears once a year on all hallows eve, Taking its toll in blood from those not placing the yellow grinning idols of worship on their lawns.
Concept: Mordicus Vampirus Trying to find a cure for HIV, scientists carried out several experiments on multiple animal species. When an experiment went completely wrong, the result was the creation of a bloodthirsty creature so dangerous that is capable of draining a human being out of blood in a matter of minutes.
Concept: The Pumpkin Tick
This huge and disgusting variant of a tick lures its victims in with its clever disguise, sometimes even gathering candy around it as an additional attraction for its young victims....
Concept: Juicer It uses it's strong arms and tail to find and suck small amounts of blood, but most of the time he uses them to hold it's victims upside down and suck and their blood cuase its much faster.
The suction caps on the end of it's tail and arms enable him to walk on any surface to surprise it's prey from above for example.

An old farmer asked a witch to cast a spell upon his field so he might have a bountiful crop. "Very well," replied the witch, "But you must promise to share half your crop with me, and if you do not I will bring a great horror upon you. The farmer agreed to the witches proposal and true to her word his crop was bountiful that fall. The farmer separated half the grain for the witch and half for himself but a single shaft of wheat fell from the witches pile. He picked it up the shaft of wheat and chewed on it thinking surely the witch wouldn't notice a single shaft of wheat was missing from her pile. Upon delivering half of the wheat to the witch she cried out, "Farmer you have stolen a shaft of wheat from me, so tonight I will send a great horror to your home." That night the people of Hovingham saw a frightening shape and heard strange sounds coming from the farmers field. The next day they went to his field and found the farmer dead, all the blood had been drained from his body.

Hairy holer is a weird creature; it doesn't really have a face of any kind but a hole instead! It uses the hole for two things: with it the hairy holer creates nearly a vacuum which sucks the blood out of the victim. It also acts as a light source. Even though the creature doesn't have eyes, its special internal organ senses how the light reacts to various things, thus giving the creature the ability to move around easily. It also has three feet - two front feet and one strong back foot for jumping around. Whether you have or haven't met a hairy holer is easy to tell: the victim has a bloody crater-looking wound in his/her skin. Once the hairy holer has absorbed all the ingredients it needs from the human blood it simply bursts rest of the blood out of its anus.
The two legged slicers climb on unsuspecting victims and are often completely unnoticeable until the painful bite. They slice through the skin with razor like mouthpieces, similar to horseflies, that are hidden under the large cheeks. In the end these pests are easy to detect and dispatch after the bite, but you really don't want to experience the quick, painful slice followed by greedy licking.

When the first teams of colonists arrived on Orsu B-35 they were awed by the horse sized Blood Lions - and relieved to learn that the vampiric beast had no interest in feeding on humans. Before long, this changed however.
Once the Blood lions got a taste for human blood they evidently abandoned their native host animals in favor of this new Earthly flavor of sustenance.
Today the wild Blood Lion seeks to feed exclusively on humans.
Blood Lions do not kill their hosts. When feeding, the Blood Lion uses its two prominent mandibles to administer to its host a very unique anesthetizing agent. The host does not feel any pain nor do they have any memory of the "attack", are completely healed from the entry of the Blood Lion's proboscis and victims actually awaken revitalized and energized.
This natural mechanism allows for the Blood Lion to have a perpetual and healthy selection of meals.
The essence of the Blood Lion anesthetic is a subject of great interest; the benefits of understanding and synthesizing it have vast applications, facilitating a sustainable and safe "hibernation" state for deep space travel is of primary interest to researchers.

description: The black assassin lizard is a unique creature, for unlike most reptiles it has no jaw but only a proboscis-like tooth which it can move to conceal it beneath its neck. Stranger still is that it preys solely upon humans despite it's difference in size. It waits for its victims to fall asleep then climbs upon their helplessly slumbering shoulders and sinking its fang betwixt their collarbone and shoulder blade drinks deeply from their veins. Because meals can be few and far between it stores blood in inflatable sacs on both sides of it's neck for later digestion.

Concept: vermillion striped gromms. or the blood thieves because of its lust for sugar saturated blood. the vermillion striped gromm comes out once a year on Halloween night to feed on the blood of children who have eaten high amounts of sugar filled candy. it does this by emitting a powerful sleeping gas into the sleeping child's nose allowing it to feast on the sugary blood uninterrupted.
after its meal, the gromm will burrow under the ground and hibernate until next years feast.
Overall it was a good week for rendering. There are a ton of entries up this week that have stellar rendering quality with great texture. Honorable mentions to: (lark, emerging, Ricardo Robles, Edward B and c-rallis. Overall, though, despite the overall high level of rendering, there were a few too many mite/insectoids this week and I didn't really feel like any of those caught my attention design-wise. I voted for ChromaticCodex whose design I found appealing with a slight degree of humorousness and some nice treatment of surfaces on a fat-reliant design.
This week I don't have time to do a full crit breakdown, but I do have one specific comment for ZenithDeLunaris. I've noticed your entries all rely on the same kind of anatomical structures. It would be wise to branch out your design possibilities with creatures.
Ive not done any crits in a while so heres a little contribution.
SMILEFACE Great job dude. Awesome texture and love the browns with that orange/yellow. My crit would be that the black background with the blacks in the design is making abit difficult to read this creatures anatomy. Especially round the orange area its tough to read.
emerging Great to see you back dude, love the texture in the creature and the colours. Would have been cool to see this creature from different angles on a blue print or something to get a beter idea as to its overall anatomy and how long its claws are etc. Also, something about the composition doesnt sit well with me. The creature seems abit small for the amount of plain empty space. Still a solid design despite these niggles, nice one.
eclectix Nicely presented, love the oranges on the blues and cool design. Perhaps more indications of this thing as a blood sucker would be cool. Showing stuff like red blood vessels around its stomach area or the cliche blood dripping from its mouth area are possible suggestions. Abit of foreshortening around the tail area or neck/head would also help the design as the side view is making the creature seem a little flat. Great job regardless dude, great to see your designs again.
chromaticcodex Awesome design, one of the most original this week and also great story telling. The platform of people on the right could do with more focal attention though. This would also help sell the scale of this creature. Perhaps using abit of colour could fix this. Possibly try adding some reds around the figures and platform as at the moment they are just blurring into the background. There seems to be a few perspective issues around the bottom of the image too around the creatures feet and river. Hope these help
Ricardo Robles Nice one man, great vibrant colours and solid design elements. My main crit here is that the creature appears from first glace to be floating, perhaps that shadow beneath him could use more darker tones. Also i would perhaps darken or desaturate the green background abit as its stealing attention away from your creature.
scf Awesome rendering man, love how you sold that wet/slimy texture with such few brush marks. Perhaps abit more tidying up around the human neck area would help the overall design a little and also ground him beter. A deeper mix of colours and further rendering around the focal areas would be cool too.
Edward B Dam dude, thats fu*&ing awesome. The textures and lighting around its head and body area are fantastic. Reminds me of Brad Ridneys slightly. Only crit here is theres nothing to show this thing as a blood sucker, probably more of a human mucher ;p. Got my vote regardless, great job man.
Whiskey sour One of my favourite entrys also. Love the rendering and colours in the creature. Only crit is similar to emerging's in that the creature feels a little small for the overall composition. Great job anyways, hope to see more of your stuff in the future.
c-rallis Great job man, another one of my favourite entrys. The dramatic lighting, foreshortening and perspective are really fantastic. The creature feels more of a killer rather than a blood sucker but still a great design regardless. Only reason my vote went to Edward B instead is because i felt his rendering and mood was the strongest. Tough choice though, hope to see more of your stuff in the future.
factalbot Cool creature design and love the rendering, defiantly reads as a Halloween themed creature ;D You wrote that the creature is disgusting but i feel it looks prity cute. Also theres nothing to show or suggest this thing as a blood sucker. The composition feels abit empty too due to the amount of plain space. Still a good entry though and great job on the original design.
Jaapoomen Nice entry man, impressive rendering and solid design. I would probably ditch the left and right columns as they feel unnecessary and are drawing attention away from the main design. Although your perspective is cool and making your creature look dynamic the creatures posture looks abit odd to me, like a crazy dog chasing its tail. Not much else to crit from me, this is still a great design. Nice one.
misterE Awesome design, great colours through the creature and i love the creatures anatomy. I think the light souce from the top left could do with being stronger to further push the form of your creature. Also the perspective seems abit off. The way the floor is slopping is suggesting the horizon line is around its legs area yet the head seems to be at eye level. Great entry regardless, nicely done.
smuli Cool creature man, but i think you could push the design further and also the rendering. It feels more of a WIP than a finished overall design. Think about how you present your design too, the action shots of the above creature seem like different creatures rather than a step by step of the creature in action.
hohde Thats a prity disgusting design lol. I'm having trouble understanding how it fuctions also. Why would a create need or projet a light source if it doesnt have eyes? The one backlegs feels abit random too, it feels like it should have more legs. An idea which would be cool would be to add a blue print sheet showing this creates anatomy, organs, skeleton etc to help sell your idea. You def have a creative mind though, i look forward to seeing more of your creatures in the futute
arbinn Interesting design and i like your rendering style. Reminds me of Golden Serpents. It looks a little strange in terms of composition, the skin area seems heavily slanted yet the creature seems almost horizonal. The black line around your creature is also contrasting with the depth of the creature and making it look flat. Its not a big issue but its also tough to imagine how big this creature is, perhaps some sort of indication of scale would be cool.
j-sun Very cool creature design. Love the deep blues, reds and oranges you got going on here. The values and rendering could be pushed further and some texture in its body could help your design alot too. Perhaps some elements to show this thing as a blood sucker would be cool also.
zenithdelunaris Creepy lizard, that tooth looks prity bad ass. Pushing your values, lighting and form would help make your design more realistic and push the overall design. Check out photos of lizards from nature and see and study how they interact in 3D space to help you with this. Also try painting and drawing stuff from life to help you understand your fundermentals beter.
lark Daaam Lark, good to see you've not lost your edge, thats awesome. Shame this round isnt a multivote because with so many great entrys its been tough pickings. The overall design reads great and the mood and rendering are fantastic. Having trouble finding crits here dude, sorry =/ Hope to see more of your creatures in the future.
Great job from all, hope these help you all in some way

I'm back, moving is more or less finished and internet is up and running...
lots of great entries this round...It's almost impossible for me to choose which one to vote for....
...eventually I ended up voting for c-rallis...
also liked SMILEFACE, emerging, Edward B and (lark's entries as well...
Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!
nice to see COW with so many talents now! i liked a few of them and it was a hard decision between c-rallis, (lark, arbinn, whiskey_sour, and Edward_B but i went with c-rallis in the end - i am a sucker for nice experimentation on perspective and lights from blinds haha
