ok then, this is obviously not the place to be promoting such a competition. My apologies. Everybody move on, nothing to see here....

I've approved this only to yell at you fuckers. This really takes the cake. It's not enough for you to ask for free art, you have the BALLS to think people should PAY YOU for a CHANCE to have their work used? AND you're going to use EVERYTHING that people submit to publicize YOUR project?!

    But guys, guys...

Think of all the exposure you could have! Surely that's worth giving your work away, right guys?

hmmm. I didn't really expect such a negative reaction to what I thought was a fairly constructive competition.

The film is being released for FREE. I'm not making a cent out of it and in fact have shelled out quite a bit of money from my own pocket to pay concept artists and asset builders to realise my lifelong goal of being able to direct and release an animated movie.

If you are a professional working in the industry I'm not expecting you to hand over your art at gunpoint and pay me for the privilege, I'm not forcing anyone to enter. This is targeted at students or artists just starting out their career and looking for some exposure - and there are a hell of a lot of people on CA in this position. I think you are doing them a disservice by trying to shoot this down.

It's your personal project - why the hell do you think anyone is going to PAY you to work on your personal crap?

    This is beyond obnoxious.

How about you give ME ten dollars?

For just eighty cents a day, you can give a starving artist the gift of kneaded erasers and Mountain Dew.

"AND your going to use EVERYTHING that people submit to publicize YOUR project?!"

No, I'm not going to use everything that is submitted, that's a completely unfounded statement. Finalists are chosen and the sponsors of the movie get to choose the winner.

Yes. I just never knew art students had so much money to be the focus of a concept art (scam) contest.

erm, if they can afford $22500 I'm sure 10 bucks isn't going to force them into starvation.

Oop, he edited his post, can someone else edit it back so that everyone can see what constitutes a bad post? Thanks in advance, I don't want this so easily swept under the carpet with a quick apology.

It was, essentially, "sponsor our 3d movie project with a donation of $10 or more and you can submit concept art that we'll use use in the picture." So it's like paying to do spec work.

I'm kicking myself for not quoting the whole thing in my initial response. But yes, it was a run-of-the-mill design a creature for our movie "contest," with the added special twist that you had to become a $10 "sponsor" to enter.
