So, it's been a little more then a year since I started drawing a regular basis. (Got my Tablet on October 16th/17th of October in 2011)

I thought it would be fun 're-draw' or do a paintover from one of my old drawings. For me, this was so awesome. To be able to visually have these two laid out in front of me really solidified the idea of how much practice and working at something can make a difference.

Naturally, I picked Hellboy. Mind you it's a WIP (Hair, ears and blending still need to be done)

Hey just a quick update as I haven't posted in a while.
I decided to do a self-porttrait! Let me know what you guys think, because I'm defiantly not happy with how it came out.

Hey warmSoda! You've captured the tone and lighting really well! The only thing i notice which is a bit off is the eyes, they look larger than normal. Top notch though, seeing you improve really gives me the motivation!

P.S I love Samus - I need to get round to playing the trilogy i have which is still sealed

Hey WarmSoda, I'm glad to see you working with traditional stuff as well as digital. In my opinion you should definitely work on the basics (anatomy, form, light and shadow) in traditional art more so than in digital. From what I can see you're on the right path so keep up the good work and turn out as many drawings as possible.

Yeah the Bane one is excellent! Nice strong strokes and colours in that!
I like the Cu...Cumberbatch? Sherlock. That one.
    Nice improvement already.
And things that are not faces too!

So, I'm super frustrated right now with how these are coming out. These studies are so hard. If anyone has any tips, please share because I'm going crazy here.

Hey! Cool sketchbook You can really see your studies paying off, especially on this last page. Your Hellboy and Bane studies look awesome.

If I were to give some advice I'd say just keep it up with the practice and the studies. In particular anatomy in terms of structure - work on your construction to get the right proportions etc before you start fleshing out the figure or face. I've seen a lot of people suggest Loomis so I'm going to add my vote for that! If you can get yourself to life drawing classes they are insanely helpful, too.

I was going to give some crit on your use of colour but with the Bane study you've really nailed it, in my opinion. I'd just recommend keeping at it - and really pay attention to the colour in your reference. It may not be the colour you think it is . In some of your earlier studies this was really noticeable in your skin tones. All I can suggest is do some studies purely based on getting the colours right - it's painful but worth it .

I hope that helps a bit! You're already really on the right track and as I say, improving a lot with every post . Keep it up!!

Please drop by my sketchbook and help me improve!
