    CHoW#265 :: Horrible experiments

    Character of the Week #265
    Horrible experiments

-Design a result of a failed scientific experiment

    DEADLINE: SUNDAY 23rd OCTOBER 2011, 9PM GMT+1
    Check your timezone!

Soviet union, 1965. Inside their hidden underground bunkers, russian scientists are conducting extremely secret scientific experiments on their test subjects. Prisoners, orphan children and even homeless people are being snatched from the streets in the dark of the night and dragged into these bunkers where they, against their will, serve as test subjects for horribly cruel and inhumane experiments. They are mutated, mutilated, toxicated and twisted into grotesque shapes of bone and flesh, bearing no longer much resemblance to what they used to be. Needless to say, most of these experiments dont end up happily. Hundreds die in the operating tables, while some unlucky subjects live longer, only to spend their short lives in horrible pain and suffering in their dark and rusted cells, under beneath the bunkers. Kept alive against their will, all they want is to die quickly, which is not granted to them. These cell-blocks and their residents remain as a grotesque gallery of failed experiments of humans, only to remind about the horrible things science can do.

This week we want you to design one of these failed experiments.

    The Guidelines:
    • Keep in mind the cold war era in your design. No fantasy, no scifi, please make it look like it could have happened!
    • Can be of any gender
    • Think grotesque! make the whole design look grim, dark and horrible. Remember that there is no hope for the failed ones!
    • For clothing, keep it simple like ordinary jumpsuits, or something they could have worn in those days!

    THE RULES
In addition to the brief, if you do not follow these rules, you will not be included in the poll.
    • Files must be named: CHoW#265_Username
(Files with any other names such as final.jpg or even chow264final.jpg will not be accepted)
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread BEFORE the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the focus character must be visible
    • Final images must be accompanied with a basic character sheet in a separate image
Character sheets should at the very least show a sketch of the front and back of the character and a couple of early thumbnails/silhouettes.
    • Follow the brief!

I think I'll jump in on this as well, been a while since I did a Chow and this'll be an interesting topic to get back in the groove.
Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

Okaay VERY initial scribbling.. I'm interested in the concept of forced contortionist, in order to discover the limits of the body, I think I need to push the idea more!

EDIT: Moving on from the initial image, Here are some more scribbles, I'm thinking this might be the composition I go with.. any suggestions? I am planning on working shadowy objects into the blank spaces by the way! Hopefully should be able to block in some colour pallets later today

I'm not entirely sure if it fits the brief — it is borderline horror-science fiction.
