Lander- It really must be me who is thanking you for stopping by! you gotta love crits am I right?!

pupuska: Thank you for the insights into my work. I agree with you, its like a different monster when I work on figurative work from life and when I work from imagination. BELIEVE me when I tell you that i'm constantly trying to improve that aspect of what I try to do. HARD but really fun. I think its just from lack of studying and using what I learned to implement it more intuitively through my own work.....MUST KEEP PRACTICING!

will123will- Thanks a bunch! I really love creatures, BUT i never do them. haha. weird right? but from now on, like I stated earlier, I will try to pull off 3-5 turnarounds of creatures every weekend. to only to get better is just to DO isn't it?!

CarstenJ- Thanks so much! I'm really trying to kick into gear by drawing a ton more from life and waaaay more digital studies. thanks for stopping by and hopefully you'll like my next creatures and posts to come.

SO. Here's a short update for the little after school renegade club that we have. It's really chill and people work both traditionally and digitally and we get people from school to pose for our little painting/drawing group once a week for about 3 hours. A model got sick last minute and we were lucky enough to get another right in the nick of time! YES. luckily she was awesome and I got something i really liked with her (plus i never get to paint ladies..) I had some awesome energy flowing and I REALLY didn't approach this painting normally. FIRST OFF, my friend Adam Nowak was straight killing it from the start...so i was like..F THIS. i'm not even going to draw at all. just work from the background, to the large shapes, and over all shape, to putting down really quick semi accurate bits of color..just straight painting...SO WEIRD AND not natural for me. Then some how, after fixing and not really going for an absolute likeness, I achieved what I wanted from the piece and was really happy with how it turned out. KEEPING THE ENERGY GOING!! I guess sometimes if you keep a positive mindset and great energy, your portraits and whole mindset really keep sharp and stay coOoOoOl.

    Cheers!

KONM- Thanks for the comment! I will be dropping a ton more stuff this week, so hope you enjoy!

WOW. I have been really doing a ton of stuff lately. Lots of digital studies and a ton of drawing. I've really been trying to use ballpoint pen and I"ve been loving it. I just cant stop using ballpoint anymore. Great friends to talk to about art, great nights of drawing, and great output of work = happy me!!!! Here's a large dump of stuff.

The first batch are a whole bunch of concept plants that were for CA class at my school. I had so much fun researching different plants and really learned a lot from this experience. PLEASE help critique them or just tell me what you think of the designs. I'm hoping to drop some color on em pretty soon.

-next is another weekly digital lifedrawing/painting of my friend Khrystina. started off as just a head study but lead to a full body. Really dug it.
-an update for my self portrait.
-****So one of the oil painting teachers at school decided to host a figure drawing marathon so i was able to go there and really experiment with pen focusing on contours and really trying to search for shapes!!
I've really feeling like I've been in a stride here so....I guess i'll just keep doing it! please feel free to comment of anything please! i would love to hear some input!
    CHEERS

Those marine life studies... wow. I also switched to ballpoint as my primary sketch tool because of the kind of unforgiving nature of ink, so I gotta think where to put my marks very carefully and fast at the same time. If anything could be said, i think the head on the female portrait is a bit, weird. I'd say it is a bit too large so you migth ant to check how large you made her cranium. Otherwise, it'sa great job.

Great work you've got here. Some of the portraits are coming along really nicely. Some colours are looking a little 'muddy' though, so just make sure you don't preempt the temperatures (that's usually the issue with muddiness, but I'm not sure it's completely applicable in your case). So, yes, try out some temperature studies, and see if it's helping you.

Sorry for the extremely vague crit. I just can't seem to put my finger on the issue. Either way, you've got a good sketchbook, so keep working.

I want that boxer! Give it to me! You gotta do a D-Rose like that. Where he's like cradling the ball to the hole. Do it!

Hello all. I've been a little absent as of late. School really has been beating me up, which is a good thing. BUT I WILL be posting regularly again and posting all sorts of goodies. Here's a few studies from the time that I've been gone to about 1 month ago. I'll post more tomorrow. cheers.

lancer_idenoure: YES! a fellow chicagoan. Sorry it has taken so much time to respond. maybe we could sketch around sometime!

Vritra: Wow. nice catch on the temperature. That was the first time I had ever heard of that as a crit. It REALLY has stuck to me since then. I am still trying to stay non muddy! practice practice.

    John Zylstra: I love you

Jonromero: Thanks man. I really hope I can see you around soon.

    LucasBianchi: Here we go again!

Dile_: Thank You very much! I checked out your sketchbook....WOW. awesome stuff in there and thanks for stopping by!

Nick Podraza: I love you man.

Mane: Thanks so much for the comment!

    LucasBianchi: I WANT YOUR BODY

QPK: Kind words thank you friend!

kevin_: Thanks very much. I'll post a final on the latest piece asap.

WOW. I've been sketching a lot and have been RIDICULOUSLY BUSY with school.....AND NOW I AM LUCKY ENOUGH to say that I will be attending the MASSIVE BLACK WORKSHOP IN SAN FRANCISCO IN AUGUST!!! I can't wait to meet all the awesome people there and experience my first workshop! If you're going and wanna meet up or sketch around with my homies (ADAM NOWAK , JOHN ZYLSTRA , and LUCAS !!! I am eager and MORE THAN EXCITED. I really can't wait.....anyway. I will be posting way more frequently especially sketches and more finished work. CHEERS TO ALL!

The first two pieces are for an illustration titled "GASP"
Here's the study and original idea and the end product after refining quite a bit. My GF was able to pose last second for it and I ACTUALLY won an honorable mention at a school exhibition.

THIS IS HUCK. A character very close to my heart. He's part of a series that I'm developing that surrounds the awesome world of garbage men. I'll be uploading a waaay better/higher res image of this asap.

Psychobuddy: Thanks very much! thanks for stopping by!

Here are a few sketch book pages. really love drawing on the BLUE LINE EL in downtown Chicago. 1st page is behind the day camp where I work, about 45 minutes while sitting next to Adam Nowak (check out his SB). The 2nd is a few blue line sketches, none of which are more than 15 minutes. Cheers

Thanks Nick. I love your face.

SO, totally having a conceptual overload. Have you ever had tons of "great" ideas....to later realize that they're not FUN at all? haha. Frustrating....but I guess that's the struggle we all face as growing artists. I just gotta keep PUSHING IT. other worldly.

Here's a little sketch for my next(ish) illustration. MmmM tigers and monkeys!
