And for practice, these were all 20-minute color studies from mostly film stills and a few photos. The purpose was to paint from film stills to learn about color schemes, quick painting skills, and composition.

Great sketchbook. Love the character sketches for artSlam and the gestural studies.

    Looking for a mentor
If you have a moment I would love any tips or critiques that might help me improve my work.

    -Thanks, phatbuddha!

-I wanted to do a painting study, to practice painting, rocks, and grass - seemingly simple things that I hadn't practiced yet. I learned a lot about color through this too. Can't wait to practice more! Painting referenced from a stock photo: http://jussetta-stock.deviantart.com...fs-5-305910796

More sketches and practice! Some sketches I started for the last Illustration of the Week challenge, and another painting doodle for ArtSlam.

Nice sketchbook you've got here. A lot of variety and some nice line work. I also love that glass you did on the first page. Good stuff, I look forward to seeing more!

You've got some nice movement in the mount studies. I really like the running horse skeleton. They're such a tough animal to get right.

Painting for fun! As always, any critiques are highly welcome. Also I'm not sure if the colors are too bright or jarring on other people's monitors, since my screen tends to be a bit duller than the ones at school, and it looks pretty saturated on mine.

I couldn't help but to do a study from Malcolm Liepke's paintings, there's something I just love about the way his paintings look. This was one of my favorites, so I spent an hour or two studying it.

Did some architecture studies in pen and ink this time, it was nice trying to use traditional media again to break things up.

I really wanted to paint the effect sunlight has on skin and hair, so I did. I really enjoyed this piece, and want to do more.

I revised my last painting, and then did a quick portrait study and a figure study, referenced from stock photos. http://stockeffect.deviantart.com/art/Caged-5-317673751 and http://senshistock.deviantart.com/ar...ence-319148904

This time, an environment practice. I'm finding that it's easy to get a sketchy painting thumbnail that I like, but that it's hard to bring it to a finished look at all. Still trying to figure that part out. Time to do more studies, and I think trying new approaches to painting might help. I think when I jump into a painting, I don't spend enough time on the foundations of a good drawing first.

Great studying, and some really nice results. Just keep working, I think youll do great!
Also glad to see im not the only one with a gaffer-taped skype headset, why do they persist in making them about as crush-resistant as an airfix kit??
i think this is very nice

Thank you so much for stopping by and for your feedback!

Here's a study of mountains in snow, from a photo: http://psychotherien-stocks.devianta...ns-13-73282019 because I want to do an illustration with a snowy scene. Going to do more studies until I get the hang of it. It was supposed to be a quick study, but I took two hours.
