    DDar's Sketchbook

Working on characters right now, so I'm striving to draw at least a quick full-figure and expression per day.

    Here's the first day's results.

    Two more character studies.
Today I did Bear Detective and Quick-Toothed Bill.

This was in my critiques thread, but since people stopped commenting on it and I'm not sure what more to do with it and I'd like this thread to be a sort chronicle of my work from now on I thought I'd put it up here as well...

More expression work. I scanned alot of my sketches today.

I probably won't put them up out of sheer shame though... Then again, a moment of stupidity might possess me. Who knows.

Really nice work in here; surprised you haven't got comments yet.

The shark one (you had it in the crit are?) I'm not loving the edges there... otherwise, nice composition. (an extra crit for ya)

    Thinking connects desire with creation.

Yeah, I had it in a crit area before.

What do you mean by edges? Like, the border or the edges on all the shapes?

    Thanks for your comments btw!

Sorry I haven't updated in a while guys. I've been super busy.

For a class we were challenged to use a material we'd never used before to portray a famous New Yorker.
I chose fabric and Theodore Roosevelt, and I tried my best to make a Teddy Bear that looked like him!

He's huge and he's made out of german mohair, stuffed with excelsior, his hair and mustache are real fur and his paw pads are swede leather. Also, his vest is lined with silk!
This is as far as I got before it was due. I plan on making him a suit jacket during winter break when I have more time.

Right now I'm trying to make as much work as possible so that I can get critiqued at CTN. I really, REALLY want to get into the Walt Disney Animation Studios summer internship for Visual development and I'd like to have some work that I can get suggestions on by the time the convention comes around.

Also, here's some quick sketches from the Zoos and subways!

You have lots of really fun designs in here, you've got a real knack for animals-
and the teddy bear is great- he's dressed better then I do. ^_^

Some of my recent sketches. Gonna do a new project based on the T-Rex in the Museum of Natural History. This one has to be made almost entirely with paper!
I'll put up something on that once I develop it more.

This working drawing I'm gonna transfer onto my scratchboard.

It's a jekyl and hyde project. I'll definitely post the final as well, but the final will probably have a darker background and will definitely be cleaner.

This is how the final scratchboard piece turned out. It hurts me to look at it...

Especially how poorly Hyde's face turned out...

Sorry for the lack of updates guys! I've been super busy lately, and I actually do have A LOT of stuff to upload... It's just not at the point where I'm comfortable enough with it to upload it... I'll probably be posting a bunch of it soon.

Anyways, these are just some quick drawings I made for the front page of the website I made, which can be viewed here:

Thank you everyone for the encouraging words! No worries, I'll keep posting stuff! Maybe not everything I do (god knows I sketch way too much for that) but the stuff I like I will!

Here's a painting I did for a class. I never finished it in time and just went back to it a few days ago. We had to represent a story from Edgar Alan Poe, so I chose The Raven

Also, here's a quick Christmas doodle. Merry Christmas everybody!

    hey these are really beautiful
I don't know if you checked this stuff out already but since you do a lot of anthropomorphic characters this might be something to check out!

Oh dear, I haven't updated this sketchbook in a while, have I?

Well, nevermind everything I've been doing in the meantime, here's what I just made instead of working on my school projects!

For some reason though, I can't seem to get intense blacks in painter. They all end up kind of matte, you know?

So a few days ago I was told in the WIP section that I should focus more on light/shadow studies... While I agree I should do more of them, I still personally think trying to capture movement, life and personality in my draftsmanship is more important. But anywho, I drew when I got home today instead of painting my flying whale.

I also did some Bridgeman studies, but no one wants to see those… So yeah. Afternoon well spent if you ask me. My professor may not agree tomorrow though… Guess who's not gonna sleep tonight, tomorrow or the next day? :p

Edit: I just remembered why I rarely upload stuff onto this sketchbook. Getting my files under 500KB is a huge pain in the butt. Seriously, why is the file size limit so low?!

Some sketches from the Pratt Draw-A-Thon I went to. 12 hrs of drawing after three days of no sleep was hard, but I'm glad I went anyways.
