Heres my most recent alla prima self portraits.
All from mirror. Actually this one below i tried putting up 2 mirrors opposite each other to get myself in profile. Made it much more fun getting another angle !

The portraits look solid as far as value matching goes! I think cleaning up the edges would help them pop more !

really nice start. great that you're using mirrors to work form life. Your value control and temperatures are nice. You may want to keep your darks a little more transparent and maybe vary the shapes you're making. beautiful though.

    MightCrawler - thanks man
A.Dakhil - You mean making more bold defined brush strokes. Harder edges?
Ralieyh - Yea, im painting pretty opaque in the shadows. Thanks for the comment, time to experiment!

Was a good thing i started this thread! I need lots of advice hehe

So two comments about brush strokes/edges. Guess ill have to think more about that.

Here is a digital SP, also from mirror. My purpose of this was mostly to look at details.

Not necessarily the brush strokes, it's just that when you have soft edges and similar values on separate subjects that overlap (e.g. skin over backdrop or tree over tree), you lose some clarity. But, with sharper edges, you can maintain those authentic values AND keep clarity. Your last piece does a nice job of it where the chin overlaps the neck. Good stuff man !

hey i like your shapes and your values. Its been a while since I've painted with oils but I remember it being very difficult to not muddy up the colors. Maybe after the layers dry, another layer of sharper detail in certain areas like the mouth or eyes could help give it an extra punch.

Interesting palette though. Great stuff, keep it up.
