Kevin - Thanks, what do you mean when you say more contrast, colour, subject matter or?

Mat - Thanks a lot, here is next batch

    ART:
So today I tried to do some thumbs as I feel I really need to step up the interest of my compositions. Not used to them but I think with each one it made more sense how to go about it and last one came out nice so I took it further and am pleased with it. Theyre not great though so will be doing much more.
Also a sketchpage of an idea to go along with a poem a friend wrote. A study because I havent done one in too long, need to do a lot more studying and an attempt at an interior, I never do interiors so was weird but ye...

Those little thumbs are quite nice! Keep in mind that you should always keep the depth you create in your thumbs and expand it into the piece you blow up. That depth and perspective is really what brings an envionment to life. Keep it up!

Great update - particularly love the painting of the girl! There's a really nice sense of foreground and background in the painting of the study too. Looking forward to the next update!

Reika - Thanks Ye I found myself losing that a bit at points, think im getting better at keeping the values on a worked on version but yes definitely something to look out for.

jdem - Thanks Ye I tried to be a bit more organised with my study and had 3 distinct layers, the girl stayed totally away from the background and I think its better that way, less hassle too.

Worked on the canyon some more but this is it I think, need to do some rock studies if Im going to be taking things like this further from imagination.

I need to start doing more than just a sketchpage per day its stupid but here it is anyway. Top 3 heads are from ref, figured I draw so many heads from the back might as well get it right. Need to do a lot more studies too, really do. Here is an env, dont usually do more scifi envs so was interesting. And a quick comp study of a Tom Scholes work, I will be doing quite a few comp studies of works when im "like that comp is awesome" the end/

Seage - Thanks man! Nothing wrong with an ass pat aha

    ART:
First 5 pages are studies, last page is from imagination. I always do my figure studies on paper but I dont get any more used to drawing figures digitally which is where I really need them so I did some of my form studies in PS but trying to pull out the forms how I would if working with pencil, quite happy with it I suppose. Figures from imagination still need work obviously, I always make the faces too small for the body, and general faces need work, starting to do more face studies need to just stop avoiding on get on with them.

One thing you might could study in the future is materials. Start to study how light plays on metal and especially how snowy light plays on it.

You should also look into rooting your character more. Right now it looks kind of like he's just floating on a white blanket.

I know it's just a sketch, but let's try to start to push lighting more as well.
Like for example, the lighting gets all lost in those strange (fur?) pants he has.

Keep pushing, further and further. And you'll become great before you know it...

Hey man, thanks for SB visit

I'm not great at the 'ol crit thing.

I think you're doing all the right stuff to improve, drawing from memory really helps that stuff for sure.

    Keep it up!

Hey, nice sketchbook and looks like you're varying your practice nicely. More anatomy would probably help a lot. Your environments and photo ref stuff looks good, keep it up!

So art has been weird. Last time posting this guy he is done bleh. Have barely touched my sketchbook so just getting back into it so here are a couple lame pages to get started again. These last two pieces have been very fun though, I find myself being able to spend longer on work as I find there is more to do and I can take them further which must be good so ye, here you go.

There are some nice stuff going on here and it looks like you're learning a lot! I would sugest trimming the lines a bit when doing realistic studies, as the reality is made of surfaces and not lines, for example the ornamentation on the streetlamps in the last post, you can easily see the brush used, and that's not optimal since computerbrushes aren't pretty at all. The headlights of the car are really well done though

    Hey!

    Looks good!
You're doing and studying a lot, so you will get to the more realistic style.
Kust keep the studies up and pay a lot attention to your environment.
When you're sitting in the bus, ... just watch how the light falls, how some materials look like and imagine how you would paint them.
    Sorround yourself with art everywhere.
Whether it's in your mind or with a sketchbook, go for it

    Keep it up dude!
    Sil

Good sketchbook. I'm not a fan of photo or movie shot studies though. I think that it is hundred times more powerful to work directly from life. You'll not just copy it, but you will understand it.

    Cheers

Hey man, lots of interesting stuff in here! Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook and the opinion, much appreciated. Boobs. As Merl1n said, it's better to work from life, if you have that chance. Painting yourself using a mirror can be a start.
