    Life:
Today I was tempted to take a job that's completely uncreative, simply because the paycheck sounded nice. After ruminating on it as a life choice I decided that the 40 hours a week I'd be spending there is too invaluable to my development as an artist, and in the long run it would set me back in my artistic growth. I'm breaking personal art records on a weekly basis, it's only a matter of time before I can pull more freelance, I haven't been marketing myself either, simply advancing www.powerpainters.org. My following is growing beautifully, an I love to pump out content for it, but as of right now it's not paying the bills, so focus is shifting towards making people art for moneys.

    Art:

-WIP of a man casting an arbor restraint spell on a biggie
-studies catering to understanding more about brush strokes, figure weight, color and light, etc...One is after Jaime Jones

My goal at this point is to advance my figures and overall believability as a digital painter creating epic and dynamic compositions that will enthrall onlookers. I'm also going to pump out some concept art as well. I've really been taking a "problem solving" approach to all of my works, and it's helped me grow tremendously. I'm holding off on getting to focused on environments simply because I need to specialize at this point to ascertain a level of proficiency that will help net me work.

Self crit: looking at these quickies i'm seeing a lack of "small detail" or grit in my work. really minute specks, dots, grain, etc...Not enough noise. This is under-selling my materials and not permitting me to achieve heightened levels of believability, so I'm going to introduce some "focused noise." I know I've gotten crit in the past about being too noisy, so I'll be implementing it more thoughtfully, and creating new brushes catering to the concept.

    "ello 'ello!

Just dropping off more art. I keep telling myself I'm going to be more active here! I'll have to come back at least once a week to say hello.

Anyhow, I'm currently looking for commercial work in the fantasy, sci-fi, postapocalyptic, or modern genres. If anyone has any leads (emails or company sites, namely) I'd be forever grateful . Keep killin' it folks.

Alright, so I've made it a goal to stop doing so many speed sketches and instead focus on heaping volumes of studies in addition to longer, more refined works-- ideally 15-25 hours at first...then I'll progress upwards from there.

Doing quick things is like lifting the same weight all the time, you can find new motions to make it more difficult, but in the end it's still the same weight.

I want to spend some good time really planning my composition and carefully carving the forms while considering light and detail.

Longer sargent study, commission WIP, and some of my last quick non-study works for at least a month.

Also, process video for the robot image:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfFIJ...ature=youtu.be

Updated some old pieces with reference and patience, and also finished up the goblin.

I've been doing gestures and figure studies traditionally for the last few days, I'll continue to do so whilst working in some portraiture as well.

I find that since I now know how to put in more than 10 hours into a piece-- polish will just be a time game, whereas my fundamentals always need reinforcement.

After a week or two of figures/faces/gestures/poses I'll likely start hitting landscapes again.

Hey everyone! Just hustling on the craft and looking for better paying work! I'm tired of doing jobs for $200 or less in my current client base. If anyone has leads of connections they can recommend I'd be incredulously grateful.

Life is swell! I've got lots of work when it comes to modeling and acting, and a solid freelance gig for an up-and-coming MMORPG. I can't talk much about that one, but I had a lot of fun with the paintings I've done so far...Not sure when I'll be able to showcase them though.

I've updated my website: www.taypayart.com in hopes of attracting even more clients and higher pay. I've been slowly pushing out of my comfort zones with subject matter and getting clearer as to what I'd actually like to draw/paint.

I love Fantasy, but as I do more and more market research I find that it's such a heavily crowded niche. I want to get into more surreal and abstract illustration...stuff like James Jean and Sachin Teng do. Fantasy flavors abound, but still it's own genre.

I've also been hard at work regarding www.powerpainters.org (my tutorial site) and its' respective youtube channel.

Sadly, though I've made a few cool pieces, study time has fallen to the wayside. I'll be picking it back up now though.

Life is such a hustle. Though I don't have a very avid social life, I'm striving to find balance between working on Power Painters, Freelance, Modeling & Acting, and growing all of those things-- still gotta stay in shape and do life stuff too.

I'm still really grateful over all though.

If you sign up for the Power Painters Mailing list, you get the actual narrated videos for the two gifs.

That's all for now! Still have a few pieces to drop off, but that'll probably wait until Sunday when I have more down time.

    Happy drawing,

    Yo!

Just leafed through this entire SB quickly-- some things I hadn't seen in years.

I've grown a decent amount artistically and technically, though I still have plenty of drawing issues to conquer. I feel painting has gotten to feel much more fluid, but most of my mistakes stem from not directly breaking down drawing barriers that I've left up over the years.

Also, DAMN I gotta get back to still-lives. Those were juicy even when I was more noob-ish.

Anyway, update! (copy pasta from other sketchbooks)

I just got back from a modeling gig a few hours ago. I shipped off a freelance concept art update and passed out for a bit. Sometimes I feel guilty napping-- like I'm not getting enough done, but the energy boost is more than worth trading the two hours.

here's some sketchbook work and a digital painting I finished a month or so ago for my portfolio (looks staged, hnnggg).

Going to spend the night looking at my James Jean books and doing solving some drawing issues I've been noting.
