My first attempt at sculpting (update)

Alright so this is my first try and sculpting. Got the urge to try it after going to comic con this year thought it would be fun to try it out. Probably wont have tons of time to work on it so be patient with me

After checking some sites, youtube vid's, and about 2 weeks of gathering supplies i decided to give it a shot. So i went with a 50/50 mixture of Super Sculpey and Super Sculpey Firm. Made my wire armature and used some epoxy putty to keep the arms and legs from moving. Then started building up my basic form. Probably going to redo the hands and make hand armatures. Here's some pictures don't really have much done but i thought i would post. Let me know what you all think.

    Nice work so far.

Are you going for a stylised, cartoony look, or realistic? At the mo his feet look a bit Herman Munster, but criticism depends on the intent.

    ...which is only my opinion.

Yep, suppose to be cartoony. Still need to make the hands a little bit bigger. It's actually a character from a popular video game. hopefully people will recognize it in the next set of pictures.

Welcome to the world of sculpting! You're off to a good start. Take your time and use plenty of reference. Don't be afraid to ask questions either. Curious as to who this character is ;D

So here is some progress. Didn't get much time to work on it. Made wire frame hands. began adding some detail. started with pants and belt then move on to the buttons of the coat and did one of the gloves. Decided to use some wire mesh for the bottom of the coat so i can pose it a bit.

Hopefully i get more done next weekend.

Hi ...lookink goot....at first I thought it was a surfer....same stance as I use on a long board, bot I see that he is not a surfer...still lookink goot tho.. The object of any piece of art is the total enjoyment of the sculptor...nothing else matters... so have fun and enjoy and expand as well as enjoy.
Time for me to have another adult beverage...I wait to see...

Coming along nicely. The outstretched left hand looks a bit wonky though, like there's an extra joint between the elbow and wrist. I'd bulk up the boots/ankles as well, they're pretty spindly looking.

    Hey darkone...
yeah this is looking good!! I really like how he's shaping up... And this being your first piece is fantastic!!
I agree with savagegoldfish about the outstretched hand... But i disagree that the legs/ankles and boots need bulking up... No those legs/ankles are Perfect imo... Like baggy pants rolled up to the knees and the rest of the leg showing down to the foot... Looks very much in proportion to me!!!
The 'boots' look really good.. but i think 'sandles' may look even better... Either way though mate its a great sculpt.....

Thanks Ged. Will have to think about the sandals... but maybe.
So here is this weekends update. Didn't have a change work on him last week. Added more detail to clothing, added some utility bags to his belt. Happy so far with how its coming along. Still need to fix that arm. Hope to have his weapon and backpack next time. leaving the face for last lol. Not sure if that's a good idea but I'm a little scared of how it will come out.

    Finally working on this again.

Life pulled me way from this but I'm finally starting to work on it again . Keep him in a big ol' ziplock bag seems to have held up ok. Last time i work on this I was having a hard time with the weapon, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Also did his backpack and his other hand. All that's left his the head. Will also have a fedora hat and a surgeon's mask. Making those removable. Some of you might finally recognize who this is its the Medic from TF2. Well let me know what you guys think.
