not bad, seem to be struggling a bit as to where your strenghts were with acrylics but as always good use of color and your making progress, so far from what ive seen of your new work the one with dan holding the cape seems to me the strongest one and definitely a step forward with your use of color to represent that lighting difference.
its also good that you have been working on quite a few paintings but I would suggest to focus on one painting preferably a study and render it as close as possible until you feel like going insane, you would be amazed at what you can learn about form/ light and just painting in general. and one last thing are you using mediums early on in your paintings?

thanks mike. yes i do use mediums. i lay down a couch and do all my siennas/umbers first. i am trying to reduce the amount of marks i make to the most essential shapes. as you know, that was a problem that i had with acrylics. i appreciate the insight, consider it done my friend!

Great work - I love the way you've applied the paint, the scratches (and fingerprints?) make for a really 'laboured' piece. Much more interesting as a painting, really nice style.

thanks OmertA. I am as you said, trying to explore looseness in my recent work. I struggle with limiting brush marks and finding proper shapes to define the structure of human anatomy. but its quite liberating to do some doodles that later become a extension of a painting. i want my work to be loose, but also define the form properly. some of these paintings are just me messing around, than there are others like the post # 52 that i feel refreshed looking at how unfinished it is. I am taking my roommate's strict advice and rendering it to my best capability. I appreciate your critique! thanks!

should stop by the drawing session over at rick berries studio and have a chat with him, from what ive seen in his work and approach in person and speaking with him it would definitly be a worthwhile experience and helpful in the approach your exploring.

Hey man, I love your "strokey" style and large, chunky brushstrokes. You seem to render surfaces really well with respect to light and shadow. However, I feel that you need to step away from your work more often and view it as a whole, and really think about the strokes that you're making with respect to their tones, and take your time. From looking at your work I feel like you render each surface evenly, rather than reserving certain areas for brightest brights and darkest darks. Hope that helps, keep it up!!

thanks man. i appreciate the crit. i def struggle with my value patterns. i do not often step back as much as i should. i have difficulty with the types of marks i make to define the shape i am looking for. i also have trouble with simplifying those marks. and i agree, i paint every inch of the board with the same effect. i will take your crit to the studio tomorrow and see where my latest work goes.

I use wins or newton. biggest tubes save money in the one run. and all my mediums. i use galkyd for my couch because it dries faster and i can just attack the board. also, oil bars.
