I like the first one and the portrait. Your faces turn out better and better, can't wait to see further progress!

Hey chaz, your last portrait looks really good! The hair and skin especially are nicely done. I think the study is also looking nice. Keep going!

    Sycra: aw thank you! D:
    Alex Eh: Thanks!
LastGen: Thank you! O_O I feel so impatient though ahah.

Hnggh so I ABSOLUTELY FFING FAILED CHOW.
But I made a list of what I need to do to improve (hopefully. I've been doing a lot of things wrong it seems -_-)

Boring. Flat. Horrible last minute pose. Just awful. The only sort of good thing is that it didn't take me 4 days to paint unlike the gauntlet shit challenge I did back in january (this took about 8 hours).

soo I did lots more colour stuff today and messed around. going to sleep early and have a super productive painting day tomorrow...I am copying studies too much and need to actually LEARNNN MUTHERBSDfjkb#$%!

    all imagination of course -_-

I urge you to not call it quits on that image it's really cool. Keep working on it if you know it can be better! Think about the story your trying to tell us. I get the idea that the lady and the dragon are related somehow but it's not clear to me how. I looked at the CHOW and yeah I know what the topic is but it's not coming across in your image at all.

A lady standing straight up stiffly basking in light next to a tired looking dragon does not equal dragon rider. Like at all.

I think your biggest weakness is actually making images and communicating something. And to get better at this you just need to sit down and get better at designing a good image around an idea. Designing a good image is hard, and you may fuck up on an image a few times before you get it right. Making a good image that communicates an idea clearly in 8 hours only happens after many images you have spent the time on fucking up and fixing.

At this point it's completely irrelevant how long it takes you to make an image. Only things that's relevant is making a good image.

Just some of my thoughts keep up the good work as always

Alex: Yeah thanks! I'll work on communication. I appreciate the feedback =D I'm just going to keep moving forward and figure out how to make future images tell stories for now. I don't know if I could return to that shitty image...there's only so much you can do when it's broken haha

Past few days have been awkwardly depressing o_o I've painted so much shit that I just don't want to put on here. actually I don't feel like posting any of this, but I need to keep going.

I was thinking I could update every few days but I think i should still keep the pressure of a daily update for now, instead of just throwing a bunch of things away because they are shitty haha.

Hi Chazilla, sorry to hear your feeling really frustrated lately. I think you should try to keep posting daily! Maybe try changing your mindset a little, it's a lot less fun to draw if you hate everything you do. If your having fun drawing your going to draw more and be more focused.

You do a lot of work,it's enviable your going to be good the more you draw the faster you get there. Might as well try enjoying that process! Frustration is gross =S

Just my thoughts, keep up the good work!

I went to Winterfingers SB. That girl can paint well at such a young age!FFUUUUUU. I was playing video games and chasing girls at her age T_T, hahahha. Fuck, The only way to beat her is to find a Hyperbolic Time Chamber or build one!

Anyway your painting from imagination is improving!keep doing it!

Your work with anatomy is great and your colors are already fantastic. The first portrait in post 279 may have a slight anatomical error with the eyes being too close together. Then again, maybe that's her. I admire your dedication and there is definite improvement!

Aragah: What are you talking about lool 0___0 You can kick my ass just push the studies and apply from imagination! cause I dont do enough of that lol.
bloody: Thanks. o_o I should paint other things...
Lux_Aeterna: Aw thanks so much hun! <3
    Frostelle: Thank you D: You're so sweet! And yeah I have a lot of structural/proportional issues...hahahaha...so you're right : P

o_o was wayyy too lazy to scan on the weekend. also with easter/family stuff it made sense to just keep drawing since it took up a good portion of it.

I'll post some colour stuff before bed or...nah maybe in the morning. * _*

    gestures...leg studies...imagination...hands...what???
i dont know...I just realized when I was trying another character piece that I really suck at drawing a lotttttt. and my legs were just effing atrocious. going to spend the week reviewing arms and legs over and over again..

Your colors are really goood and your figures are coming along too!
Seems like your work is already paying off.

I would suggest to get a little bit out of your "comfort zone".
I would love to see some more still lifes from you.
    They really help great. :>

Keep it up. You are doing great ^.^

I love your gestures. I don't get how you can do them so clean and so fast! They look like great basis to start building your characters from. I dont get how you build your torsos. I construct mine with 3 balls, 2 bigger ones and a small one in between, which I overlap in case of foreshortening, but you seem to skip this kind of building block and go ahead with the whole thing. I'm jealous.

And then those anatomical ... ARGH woman! They look so good. I did some anatomical studies the last couple of days, but they look nowhere as nice. What reference did you use for those arms and legs?

    Hey chazillah--

Nice SB! You're gestures/imagination work is very strong. And I am seeing a lot of elements that I admire in your rendering. I don't have any particular advice as to what you should focus on in those areas. Keep it up! I did want to pipe in that I thought very hard about your submission in CHOW. I really like the bright red eye, and the way the lighting is cast. I like the rendering. When I was voting I was looking for clear dragon and rider designs that clearly matched one another. I can't really see your dragon or your rider designs here, or tell if they go well together. I also can't tell what the relationship is between the two. Is the dragon hurt, sleeping? Is she about to kill it? If the challenge had been more illustration-based, like, "the sleeping dragon", or something along those lines, your picture would fit more. That being said, I totally appreciate your subtlety here. The picture is soft and not in-your-face, and some of my favorite artists have really mastered the art of subtlety. I guess CHOW Dragon Rider is not the place to be subtle. Anyway, I do really like it, and wanted to share that with you. Cheers!

    FULL STEAM AHEAD. Bye Jason ;__;

Aragah: I was eaten alive by monsters. :x hahaha jk, my best friend was leaving so I forgot about the internet for a while haha.
Alex Eh: Aw thanks D: There isn't much to love, haha.
zy.: Aw that meant a lot to me, thanks for taking the time to write about it! I didn't communicate the message clearly enough, so that's definitely my fault. I don't think a title would change it either. (if you're curious, she was supposed to be performing a ritual to awaken the dragon basdljfbakjbdfjsbdfkjb /embarassing / Yeah, that didn't work.)
Kweckduck : Hmm, I think all i'm doing is simplifying stuff for my slow brain. They still have a lot of issues too. Thanks for the compliment, aww..D: You'll totally kick my ass in no time, just keep working hard! :D
Silwynar: Thanks! Yep. I really should do a lottt more still life.

I'm back! >_> My best friend left today for his internship (Jason). I spent a lot of time making comic stuff (for him), reading manga, and watching anime. o_o Errrrr, because I was a little sad.
No excuses though. I'm now officially an anti-social hobbit. I think he was my only form of communication in reality. Bye Jason, good luck, work hard *_*/) he made me really nice bread as an exchange for the comic. It's so delicious, you have no idea:

Where is the promised second update? (Yup, I'm whipping your ass.)

Something I saw in that Matt Kohr video that I believe you have as well: put a tiny strip of darker shadow under your apple. I keep forgetting the name of that shadow, but it has to do with the ambient light that has trouble getting into spaces where 2 surfaces connect. Your apple seems to be floating again, try that shadow to connect it to the table.

    pixel cheetah: thank you!
Aragah: Haha thanks. Uhm, I want to be able to do whatever style I want haha...soo if i feel like drawing anime, i want to do that. and if want to paint realistically, that too! lol. not aiming for anything particular, i think "style" isn't a great thing to focus on for me haha. ty for the video!
    Alex Eh: Thanks! <3
Kweckduck: occlusion shadow I believe! thanks haha i did it really quick and thoughtlessly. yep I'll get to that goal hopefully later this week

o_o hmm, taught today, played/practiced tons of music and ended up talking to jason and watching some anime (gits:sac, korra, kids on the slope...). then i was like FSBDJFKBS and didn't start drawing until 5pm lololol~~~

all imagination crap today with terrible proportions and whaaattt haha no idea what i'm doing *_ * just having fun I guess and pretending i can draw.

tmrw will be SUPER STUDY DAY. YES gotta fix those damn legs and awful lines and billions of issues i have *_* and must resist getting distracted by piano/drumpractice/chitchatting/animu hahaha.
