    Layu´s Sketchbook ( beginner :-)

    Hi everyone,

I´m a Media Informatics student from Weiden ,Germany. As my studying contains to much math and programming (Im sick of having just 1-2 creative classes per term), I decided to focus on what I like the most: arts and cg.

I would like to study visual effects or animation, but to attend to a good school I need a traditional art portfolio, and thats why I´m here. My drawing skills really became bad, and so I just start practicing and hope I will improve and get ready for a portfolio.

I dont know if I´m right here, as I said I´m just a very beginner. But I get inspired of all these great artworks in this forum and hope to improve my skills getting critics from time to time. Hope you dont mind

Because I´m interested in enviroment design, i just studied various stones from different materials (dont know if that was correct english . I gonna try to make photoshop brushes out of them or create a more complex scene with them soon.

    P.S.

    Soo... time for another update

spend the last 10 days with my girlfriend who has no scanner, so
I wasnt able to upload my work further.

started to read loomis "successful drawing" and learned a lot about
perspective. furthermore I recognized that my ellipses could need a lot of
improvement. Im doing exercises every day now and will post them from
    time to time.

When It comes to live drawing, I decided to do more quick sketches instead
of rendered drawings who last 30min+ . So I can draw more objects and
dont have to get lost in details, which makes drawing a lot more fun now
    for me

Thank you for visiting my SB JulyZerg

But I just feel I should start again with the very beginner stuff to
learn drawing from scratch (thats the correct saying, isnt it? )

I made my own schedule now to bring more system in my practicing
(Its just the stuff i want to do minmum every day... if i have fun and
want some more or other, i do also ) :

    1h perspective
    1h theory (loomis, workshops, etc)
    4 pages ellipses
    1 page life sketches
    1 rendered life drawing

I think that should be enough to get into perspective a bit,
I dont want to overdo it :>

    Some fineliner/autodesk sketchbook ellipses:

No uploads today, had some really awful days-.-

Not just that I have a cold with headache and all that stuff, I also
wondered if I should pause my media informatics studying and try
to get into a portfolio school (there are some good around) to get
ready for a industrial design study. Thought that it would be just
the right thing for me and a good basis for a 3D school. But my father
and my grandparents are not really happy about that and told me
that these jobs are not reputable (my father is a dentist, my grandfather
an engineer...). All that made me wonder about it and I´m really
frustrated now :/ Seems like I have hardly noone who share my desires.

Sry about that, I just have a little crisis-.-

Great start for a beginner! The sketches of the hands, the rocks and the perspective sketches look very good.
    Keep it up!

Its time for an update today!

I was very busy the last days as a lot of things changed in my life. I now
moved back to Bavaria and attend a good portfolio school here. Its a lot
of fun, the atmosphere and the people are great and Im really happy with
    my decision.

I will continue with my drawing practice and also upload some artwork I do in
    school sometimes.

We have had an Illustrating workshop this week. It was most about abstracting
a selfportrait and finding a own style, and this is what came out :

    Hey guys,
it has been a long time since I posted my last stuff. These weeks (on my art school) have been so inspiring and really helped me on. I have a lot of workshops and lessons there (about 35h a week) including figure drawing, industrial design, painting,... and its real fun

But now I decided to also work on my online SKETCHBOOK again. So I just made photographs of some pieces. Hopefully I find the time to do daily/weekly updates again

Thank you both! I spent so much time working on my perspective, but
now I´m addicted to figure drawing and portraits and focus on other things

Here are some pages of my figure drawing exercises. Filled almost 2 Sketchbooks with them...
