Nice round guys! Voted for Jagder, Timmi-o-tool, and AvisNocturna

Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

before anyone mentions "uuh sevira did vote for everyone"

seriously, it took me half an hour to realize I can't decide

every single entry has its own style, its own story and some weak points as well as some strong points

some had better execution, some a better idea

Andrews entry for example as clean as the execution is can't be compared to AvisNocturnas which is clearly miles ahead in terms of effort and time consumption
but I love old SciFi and for everyone familiar with the twin paradox and Bradbury shortstories the style he picked is just perfect
on the other hand AvisNocturna chose a slightly more generic scenario but managed to transport a lot of mood, emotions and atmosphere by rendering it with so much effort and love for the details
the same way I simply can't compare Disa who made a wonderful piece of illustration which could be right out of some children's book, with DanLambert who made something that could be a still from an awesome movie I would really like to watch

I had my fun with this round and love all the ideas,
someone else can give critique if he wants to :>

(and this whole post is not meant as a critique to this round @nyctalgia, I think the fact that it is hard to pick "a winner" depict "the best" is actually a sign that the round fulfilled its purpose, as AvisNocturna already said in the WIPs thread, this is not about winning but about participating and learning, at least this is how I understand it ;> )

Maybe it's because I'm reading Game of Thrones that I voted for hunchback and Avisnocturna. I love the contrast between the rewarded knight and the sad and shocked one in Avis'...
also jagder's pic left a pretty big impact mood-wise, at least until I saw the graffiti tag...

Wow it was soooo hard to pick this week!! I was feeling fairly happy with my pic until I saw it next to all the amazing pieces this week, and now I just feel sad and depressed with my lack of skills lol.

AvisNocturna's was my favorite- wonderful detailing, mood and story; really the full package! Also voted for jagder and Timmi-o-Tool because they also had great pieces that really had a lot of mood and story to them (one really melancholy and one really positive!). Great job to everybody though!!

Here's my highly subjective opinion about the entries. They're are all very good and it's great to see the diffenrent ideas, but from personal appeal I like some more then others.

AndrewRitchie pic is my total favorite. I love sci-fi and I love Bradbury. The idea and the execution are both great. There's only one thing that bothers me - the one extra pole to the left of the gate. Maybe it's some OCD thing, but it bothers me that all the other poles have the same distance from each other only there it's half the distance. I have to stare at the extra pole all the time.

My second fav is Disa's. It has such a wonderful atmosphere.

In Timmi-o-Tool's pic I love the subject and colors. The skirt looks a bit unnatural, but I love it anyway.

I love the strong emotions in danlambert's picture. The Poses and facial expressions are so convincing.

I'd also have voted for Misplacedhippos's picture if it had made it to the poll.

Dreoilin's and AvisNocturna's pictures have great rendering, but the poses and facial expressions don't work for me. They look fake. I can't believe that a drowning person would have such a calm expression compared to the situation. I'd imagine him show a lot more panic. And with the soldier mourning over a comrade or loved one, I can't magine why he would hold her up in such an uncomfortable pose. I'd expect something more protective like in this great picture by Donato Giancola. I'd love both pictures for subject and rendering if the poses didn't kill it for me.
