    Teen Challenge 132: The Parasite

    Teen Challenge 132: The Parasite

    Topic
This week's topic is The Parasite.
I'll leave this one fairly open for you, so it can be any sort of parasite and can be taking advantage of any sort of animal or plant. You can make it all up or can use existing parasites if you like

    Focus
This weeks focus is complimentary colours. Some of you love them, some of you hate them. Either way I want to see complimentary colours in this round (if you don't know what this is do a quick google search!). Also, keep in mind that the colours don't need to be super strong--you can do a piece with strong purples and yellows or a piece with soft yellows and subtle purplish grays. Either works but they have different effects, so choose wisely!

    Deadline
The deadline is Sunday 4th of September, 23:59 GMT

Wait so is the focus only on the parasite or throughout the whole composition?

Like Yellow thing on a purple background, or a parasite with yellow and purplish hues, or do they both apply?

The focus applies to the entire image. The parasite can be any colour you like. Also just to clear up any confusion, it doesn't have to be yellow and purple, but any complimentary pair is fine (orange-blue, red-green).

    Started on this...
Need to study some caustic lighting, coz this looks pretty poop. The light rays are hiding some of the darkness as well so i think ill tone them or move them to the background.

DTP: It looks good so far, but I'm not sure exactly how it is a parasite? I also like the first version a bit more since it doesn't have the orange light from below. Without the orange light it keeps a stronger silhouette and is a more powerful image in my mind. Anyways, the following might be helpful:

Also, check out Stanley Meltzoff (google him up a bit) since his stuff should be right up your alley for this painting. Basically the best painter of fish and things underwater ever.

Its supposed to be some kind of creature attached to the back of a whale lol. The orange is supposed to be the colour of the parasite which is why its only on the worm-like tentacles. It was also just an excuse to get the focus of the challange into the pic since i couldnt think of another way to do it in the deep water where things all pretty much look blue. You're spot on about the silhouette though, i think ill tweak the colours and make it darker again to bring it out from the background.
Thanks for the links, ill check it out
