I've often followed Smolin's submissions here, but never committed to posting myself... this one looked quite fun, so here is a first post/first pass for composition and general value:
David Brasgalla I absolutely love how yours is coming along - unfortunately, it doesn't quite meet the 3/4 rule for CHoW entries. The final illustration must display at least three quarters of the character's body. Still, I do hope you pursue this one as a conceptual piece if you have the time. It's looking fantastic.
Is that default for every week? Because I noticed at the beginning it was said that the requirements were more lax on this one...
(and thanks for looking out for me!)
edit: ah yeah, I see it now - sorry, and thanks again! Back to the pad, then.
Started this yesterday but forgot to post..
Got a long weekend to finish this! Fun topic!
These are all getting so great so fast!!
jrbarker did you base your character off of a project runway contestant? it looks just like this one girl from this season. (yeah yeah yeah, I watch the show with my gf and mom, so what?)
gtgauvin the mecha-maneki-neko is coming along well!! I think the character needs more Japanese influence besides cat ears though, haha
Here is my penned version from my brown paper sketch book

ok.. my major bad - sorry it's so ridiculously huge.. (that's what he said)
I have no idea how to take it off though..
HRm, here is my start. i dont draw that much so some feedback would be nice ^_^V
not pleased with this and I probably wont be able to finish it, start lessons again on friday :/
More progress.. I think this is the final. I changed the mecha in the background and messed with perspective. I feel that this mecha fits much better in the space than the earlier, even if it kinda steal away the attention from the poor pilot girly..
I'm happy (and tired) with this one so I probably won't make any changes to it but I take crits any day to help me improve.
Also, thanks for all the advice I got for this! (If you guys find that the size seems too small I might get tempted to make it larger

@Gadbury looking sweet so far, she's got a bit of a package going on though o:
@Mateja - looks like that illustration is going to be pretty epic.
Here's an update on mine, tried to fix some facial flaws, and her hand. added color as well.
gadbury i think shes large enough and the composition is great. i personaly love the painterly feel you give it. great job so far man
Okay, coming at this again, still very sketchy... probably going to reduce the hatch size now.
The idea is to show these girl dirty from oil, because her mech got broken, and she's right after some kind of emergency landing.
These something on the back of the girl is supposed to be a mech
Cool topic never tried Mecha stuff before. Focusing on the pilot first, with 3 different designs. I'm leaning more towards number 1 as it looks like she is wearing a battle suit, the second is more of a mechanic and the 3rd controls the mecha with the devices on her arms, legs and head.
Just goofing around
maybe i should add a police element? . . . hmmmm ...

This is my first attempt at a Chow. It's still in very early stages, I'll implement some of the required features in a later version. It's great to see all the amazing work going up, can't wait to check out everyone's finals.
Pose referenced from Bridgman.
@jsn: Thanks. I thought loose socks were out of style. Maybe I just didn't notice, working in junior high schools. Think I'm going to darken and desaturate the blue in the jumpsuit to go for that school uniform shade of navy.
Not sure if I'll be able to make it back before the post of the finals so here goes.. no matter if it doesn't make it to the poll. I like the idea someone posted that the finals could be accessed earlier.
Gadbury: I think the size of that mecha is impressive and is a perfect fit for the pilot. And if it's too small, you always have the character sheet, right? Isn't it the sole purpose of the sheet to put all the details of the character in it, or am I wrong?
Ebersol: I like that "old" feeling in your style
David Brasgalla: How do you do that? it's so soft and the colors are amazing, excellent!
Artfix: the composiotion and the colors are looking very good! Only thing that comes to my mind is that the mecha look more like a fighter plane at the moment. I recall you had some curved thing in the back in the thumbs, I think it brought a nice twist to the design.. Good job still, as usual!
Hi ! there is my pilot I'm thinking about colors
have done some more, and start feeling finished. kinda happy with the result^_^V feedback is appreciated.=)
SpasmMan: If I were you, I would be veeeerrrrryyyy careful with your use of the Hello Kitty icon.
Juki: I'm loving your Mecha, and the smoke coming from her mouth is well done. The only suggestion I would make is perhaps a touch of red-orange at the end of the cigarette to make it glow, and pull it from the background, it seems to be getting just a little lost against that wall.
Ebersol: Yours has an amazing contraposto-gesture thing going on that I am looooving.
Artfix: I agree that it is looking very fighter-planey, but as it is still a WIP, I'm excited to see how it morphs into a mecha
MJ_Alcazar: I love your painting/coloring style, and it looks like it will come out great! I would watch the hand holding the wrench, it is a bit awkward. Perhaps it is because it's at a perfect vertical, or maybe I am a bit weird, but I tried holding a ruler like that, and it was a bit painful on my wrist. I suggest putting it at a bit of an angle. Although, its late in the week now, and something small like that you may be able to just ignore
