Syrian Cartoonist Ali Ferzat Savagely Beaten

    http://www.cartoonbrew.com/cartoon-c...ly-beaten.html

    Whoa.

Sometimes I get caught up in the microcosm of my own life and artistic develoment, and forget that there are people trying to make statements and effect change through cartoons.

And are brave enough to do it when speech may not be a protected right.

Brave man, I hope his hands heal ok. I read one guys opinion that caricatures can't affect change really and have no sway over governments, that blows that theory out of the water. The only small consolation is that the government must have felt threatened to do that to him and to the singer they mentioned (eek).

That's terrible. I can't imagine what it must be like to be so forcibly and cruelly silenced like that--the government is taking away his voice by taking away his ability to draw, and it's just so vicious.

I don't know if he really did the drawing at the end there but if he did wow. Broken several fingers, beaten but still doesn't regret anything.

The man has courage thats for sure.
