Thread: Zikes' Sketchbook
August 25th, 2011 #1
Starting a new Sketchbook here at ConceptArt, where I get so much inspiration. I hope it will keep me motivated to draw more often and alot more than I am at the moment.
I'm a 21 year old student at Gotland University, studying Computergraphics and Animation, trying to become a concept artist/illustrator.
Will try to keep it updated as much as possible. Critiques are much appriciated!
Last page for latest stuff!

@ sin eater: Hey, thanks! Yeah, you're probably right about the knees. And I really need to do studies, badly! Got a hard time picking and starting them though.

A study and a WIP!

This was suppose to be a speed paint study, but it just went to be a normal study. I need to discipline myself when trying to do speed paints. Set a timelimit and such.

@Malepart: Thanks! I might come to finish it sometime, but for now I'm quite bored with it.
A paint I did for some reason, don't know why really. Then I got bored with it and started messing things up.

1 - Did something from my head, took way to long time and didn't get satisfied with it.
2 - Eyestudy of Christina Aguileras eye.
3 - Photostudy of Natalie Portman.

Practiced on rendering skin, didn't go so well as you can see.
Nevertheless, I've bought a scanner, which should arrive any day now. That means that I can upload my pencil sketches and be a little more productive here at ConceptArt, and with that a little more productive overall in the drawing.
But I really need your help! I really don't like my work at the moment.
So please, give me some critique. I know you got something about my stuff, waiting to come out.
It would mean alot to me if you could do that!

good progress man . your painting skill is improving fast. natalie portman portrait is great . I would suggest you to do some pencil studies of anatomy and still lifes along with your digital stuff. traditional sketching actually helps a lot in the long run . It also gives more control in digital painting. waiting to see more anatomy studies.

The studies are paying off- keep it up
That hamster made my night- love it!
September 28th, 2011 #17
@sin eater: Thanks! Yeah, I'm on it! I totally agree with you. There will be alot of them now! I promise!
@Rhubix: Thanks man! You gave me motivation on finishing that hamster, he's fun!
I've finally gotten my scanner and new sketchbooks, so I'm a happy man! Will be alot of pencils now and with that some variation in my sketchbooks. Not only digitals.
I practiced some lifedrawing with Pixelovely. It was really fun and I noticed, which you probably can see of these sketches, that I've been doing way to few studies of this kind! It's actually my third time. The two before this was with a reallife model, dunno which I prefer though. But I'm gonna keep doing them, was alot of fun! And I learned a whole lot from when I drew them. They are 5-10 minute studies.
More pencils and some school stuff coming up soon! Stay tuned!

Im also an art student and I just created a sketchbook here recently too and Im finding it really is great motivation to keep drawling especially when you know people are watching. I've got to say the hamster is just adorable and probably one of your strongest pieces because it shows so much character. I love looking at how other people approach figure drawling so I found your figure particularly interesting as well. If you have any animation it would be cool to see you post a link to one. Good luck I hope to see more of your stuff once you get your scanner.

@ CarmenJudy: Thank you! Yeah, this site is a motivational kick in the butt! Keeps you going, it does. I don't have any animations yet, but I'm thinking about doing some. It's so much fun!
@ Jae1234: Thanks!
@ Satupeikko: Thanks! Allthough I think the Nat study is pretty low on contrast and values. Gotta work on that. Still-lifes would do me good. Got a hard time starting them though. But I'll take your advice and just do it!
@ Psychobuddy: I think I have to work on my lines and shadows though, but thanks!
@ Jeff Bartzis: Thank you! I will try to keep it updated more often. Push the studies and release all the ideas I got in my head!
First off we got some doodles, then some ugly lifedrawing studies (which I learned a lot from though) and last a experiment I'm working on. But more on that with later updates.
Schoolstuff coming up soon aswell!

Make 3 characters and at least 7 storybeats for a chosen story. We had 3 stories to pick from, I picked Red Ridinghood.
Red ridinghood Character. The wolf, grandmother and storybeats are coming up soon. Stay tuned!

@ Danny_K: Thanks, and that I will do!
Some crappy quick cloudstudies.

Wolf and grandma update to the Red ridinghood-schoolassignment.
The wolf should have been a werewolf kinda wolf, to my own version of this Red ridinghood story. But now he just became a werebear or something, which I don't like. But I'll change that later on, I think.
And then I decided to post some sketches from this summer. Enjoy!

I think I prefer more of your pencil sketches! The figure drawings there are great, I really like some of the stuff in post 23, in the first two pages there! Also those digital clouds look really good. keep it up! (:

@ neonndreams: Thanks!
@ obier: Thank you! I'm not sure which one you mean. First I thought you meant "Photoshop!" when you wrote "PS!". xD
Now some doodles!
