    Cow Stella's Journey

    Hello everyone,

    I am 20 years old and I have the dream of becoming an illustrator/2D artist one day. I am working very hard to get this dream fullfilled.

    So I'm starting this sketchbook with a collection of my later works.
    I'm always openminded for comstructive critique.

    Welcome to CA! Nice stuff by the way. An advice: calling your studies crap won't change a thing, so I don't think there's sense in self-flagellation. Understanding what is wrong and what to do in order to become better will get you to your dream far quicker.
    Nevermind anyway..

    thanks twell^^ well, some self-critiquism isn't wrong i think..as soon as I am not content with my work I will never cease to learn and to improve.

    If anyone has some tips for me how I can make my photographed pencil works look proper, please don't hesitate.
    I'm pretty disappoint that my okay-looking sketches look that horrible on PC.
    And yes, I have played around with levels, brightness/contrast and all that stuff a lot already

    Thanks, caaraa.

    Well, maybe I have looked too much through the Sketchbooks of Maidith or Algenpfleger, but I feel overwhelming doubts of myself and I am seriously not sure if I ever reach my goal of becoming a good artist....

    I don't know why I don't stop to tease myself with picking up the pencil evr'yday

    Hey
    Nice sketchbook - the nailpolish study is stunning! Looks really realistic (and a very beautiful color, I'd use it at once if it were on my desk! ). Your other digital works look good as well, I like the way you blend the colors, especially the greyscale one at the beginning.

    I know very well what you say about the doubts after looking in some of those gorgeous artist's sketchbooks - they already start at such a high level, and move from awesome to even more awesome! But you (and me, hehe) shouldn't become demotivated from that - just keep up doing studies, and also some works purely for fun, to keep in mind why you are doing all these exercises. In the long term, all the work will pay off!

    Hmm, nice work. One thing - your pictures (digital paintings and traditional studies alike) have a tendency to be too high-contrast. You go too light in light areas and too dark in shadows. I'd recommend taking some time to do a couple really long, really careful value studies from black and white master paintings so you can get a feel for how other artists approach values.
    I have the same problem, so.. ^__^"" it's a pretty helpful exercise.

    I'd also like to see more gesture drawings - loosen you up a bit. @@

    Otherwise, nice work. I love the soft rosy cheek on your most recent post, and the structure in her shoulder.

    My sketchbook - come critique me!

    Aww, thank you so much, Hyenathatdraws! ♥
    That means a lot to me.
    and you're most welcome

    Thank you a lot also, JesseM! I'm currently having some issues with the colours and colour values of skin tones T_T
    It's quite difficult but it is great that you showed me some mistakes here.
    I'm a lover of great contrasts because earlier I almost had none.
    I guess it's very difficult to find well balanced values :/
    Anyhow I like to use references with strong light/shadow contrasts^^;

    I was absent for way too long, was working on some bigger projects lately. But I never ceased to draw^^;

    My new Intuos arrived yesterday and I started testint it immediately..its amazing!
    With it I got a program called Autodesk Sketchbook Express.
    It's heavenly - just like drawing with a pencil but digitally.
    The 2nd sketches are made with it.

    Wow, those digital characters look great! Especially the last one, love the colors.

    Don't forget to apply what you learnt in your anatomy exercises though, you tend to draw the (upper) arms a bit to straight sometimes.

    Keep up the great work

    And damn, i just see how straight the arms of the lady in my last work are D: I just don't see those glitches as long as I'm not told that they exist.
    thank you for telling me !
