    The Jerrrks Sketchbook

I have long since admired the work of digital artists such as Craig Mullins and Dice Tsutsumi but have always been humbled away from the art form because of unbelievable talents such as these. I have decided to dedicate a portion of my free time studying this trade now with no illusions of rising to that level but a goal of producing work that I may consider satisfactory. I would very much appreciate any feedback from you on this long journey I have ahead of me. Thank you.

Still having some trouble with the subtleties of faces. I also feel that the value range here is very small. Definitely needs more contrast. Just cant seem to pick the colors correctly.

I've been really inspired lately by the traditional painter Julian Merrow-Smith and his "a painting a day" blog. So here is a landscape and an empty promise to start attempting a (digital) painting a day.

Dam I missed my own deadline on this one by a few hours. This isn't going to be as easy as I thought...

In general your edges could use some work. Seems like there's a lot of soft brush and no crisp edges.

Check out what James Gurney says about them. Hard/Firm/Soft/Lost

Thank you Mr. P Sage for bringing this to my attention. You are absolutely correct, this is something that I was not even taking into consideration. Such an eye opening observation! This is definitely the type of critique I need.

The following is my very first self portrait. I have always dreaded this exercise, but after viewing a lot of the sketchbooks here I have come to realize that doing a self portrait every once in a while is a great way to measure ones current skill set.

I've been drawing a lot of women lately

Drawing women is fun but I am having a difficult time giving it a "painterly" look. I would like for all the brush strokes to be visible that that seems to go against the softness of a woman's skin. Alberto Mielgo does this very successfully. I guess it's time to do some studying.

    Oliver

This is a piece of fan art I did of my friend's character named Oliver. Basically I was trying to give the cartoony character a bit more of a realistic feel.

A new portrait I did for a friend of mine. I really like the way the smoke came out. The face, on the other hand, doesn't seem very successful :/
