CHoW#257 :: The ultimate police riot controller

    Character of the Week #256
    The ultimate police riot controller

-Create a design of the ultimate police riot controller-

    DEADLINE: SUNDAY 21th AUGUST 2011, 9PM GMT+1
    Check your timezone!

The world as we know it today is at an edge of chaos and disorder. People are massing up for riots, breaking and looting everything in their way, and behaving violently towards each others. These horrible riots seem not to have an end, and the Police forces needs to come up with something to keep the masses of people behaving and break up the riots that plagues the cities. One dark and violent night, rioters and looters are burning up houses, beating up old people and taking whatever they get theyre hands on, but look there! is it a bird? or an airplane? No, its The ultimate police riot controller!! Ready and able to bring order in disorder, harmony into chaos, and most of all, to beat up the rioters!!!

    The Guidelines:
    • This can be either male or female
    • Style and era are modern day, not sci fi!
    • Think about his/her equipment! Non-lethal weapons and crowd control gear only!
    • He/she has to be able to handle huge masses of rioters simultaneously, so think about the attributes of the character
    • The character must be of Police forces, keep this in mind in the design!

    THE RULES
In addition to the brief, if you do not follow these rules, you will not be included in the poll.
    • Files must be named: CHoW#256_Username
(Files with any other names such as final.jpg or even chow256final.jpg will not be accepted)
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread BEFORE the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the focus character must be visible
    • Final images must be accompanied with a basic character sheet in a separate image
Character sheets should at the very least show a sketch of the front and back of the character and a couple of early thumbnails/silhouettes.
    • Follow the brief!

I actually did this kind of topic for an art-test I did for Guerilla games (didn't get the job though..) but let's see if I can do better this time.

    Tuner people, not Turner.

A mind that wanders so much, it brings back souvenirs.

I may ultimately not use them, but are exoskeletons currently in development off-limits? Theoretically one could say that their character is using a prototype exoskeleton because of an extreme emergency.

Also, I think it's bananas that PixelTuner didn't get that job. Your artwork is fantastic!

Don't know if I'm trying to be too clever here, but since the first thought that came to mind was a hulking. bad-ass riot cop, I went the complete other direction and thought of what a "parkourcop" might look like. The idea is that he'd be jumping on rooftops and walls all Prince of Persia like, dropping teargas bombs to dissipate the crowd, all the while heading toward the center of the riot where the leaders are to take them out with his electric batons before jumping away again.

Playing with different types of armor here, from cuttting edge "memory plastic" to more traditional police armor to a possible hybrid. Let me konw what you guys think.

Alriiiiiiiiight! Time to get back to the CHOW! Been quite awhile since I got to participate in one of these but there has been a lull in the workload at home so I am throwing my hat into the ring!

And to start it off I thought I'd enjoy some proper concepting instead of just being a lazy tool and jumping right into the glamour shot. My idea: a riot cop, combined with the third generation Raytheon exoskeleton (probably be produced by 2013 to be battery-powered). Gives him strength and agility to fight the crowds, and its a very realistic thing. Arming him with a gas grenade launcher and a riot shield. Boom! Any other ideas?

So I have helmet designs and pose designs. Time to weigh in people (before I say my personal favorites!)

I can't wait to get drawing!

    -Dread_Reaper

    @Ryamsumo

The brief did say to not get too sci-fi with it, so I'd favor designs 2 and 3 over the first one (so as not to push the envelope too much)

Nah dude, I find it hard to not blur the lines between what you'd call modern day and Sci-fi. Realistically speaking, there's tons of sci fi elements which already exist IRL, like invisibility and anti-air lasers. I think that anything would fit fine as long as it doest have a laser cannon, beam swords or anything like that. And realistically speaking, if it's ONE person which can control masses, then it's armor should be pretty high tech and incredibly expensive. Your design looks pretty feasible to me!

    And here's my attempt:

I spent the last 30 mins drawing up a bit of a pose-idea-frame-thing and whacked some armour on 'im.
this was just to get what was in my head down on paper really fast, so far I only really like the idea of a gas mask and shield. he wont have a gun, that was 'fur lulz'

Drayner you are incredible. How do you do all these? And why don't you ever finish any for the poll?(I think you used to?) And do you have a job doing this kinda stuff? You are terrific at it.

Oh and I agree that they're missing something because they don't look ultimate enough. Go one step further and try to make them ultimate riot controllers
