    Thanks for the positive comments!

This is something I started today but I got frustrated with it so I'm just dropping it, haha.

Great SB! Seems like u have a solid grip on values. However I'd recommend u to do more facial anatomy studies because as good as all of your portraits are, facial structures are a bit off in some of them. Also would love to see some finished illustrations bro Keep it up!

I feel like I'm stealing Darren Yeow's style here. I hate myself.

last couple are good. yeah as soon as i saw the bug head i was like "yeow". at least you where honest about it, and he would probably be flattered. its more like doing a master study than stealing. and im pretty sure every artist here has mimiced another artists style for at least a couple of paintings, thats a great way to learn and get a fresh perspective. its not to say your always going to paint that way, but it probably gave you some ideas and may even have some bearing on where you end up. keep at it.

Very good sb so far! Your rendering skills and sense of proportion are already quite good...and your original characters show a lot of originality like this last bot. ^^^^^

All you have to do now is keep it up (studying, creating, artin')!!

Hey - I was a bit hard on you in your Relic WIP so thought I'd visit your sb. You have potential, strong ideas and seem to be working pretty hard. My advice is to get away from digital for now and work on basic drawing principles. Right now everything sort of has this "bloated, can't move because I'm a big hulking mass" kind of thing. You need to get a handle on composition, form, values/lighting, perspective, etc...all the fundamentals...in order to produce strong work.

A couple books I would highly recommend to you are "Sketching: The Basics" and James Gurney's "Imaginitive Realism".

    Good luck!

    @Jeff

Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I agree that I need to work on my fundlementals more and I will, and I can't make excuses not to do it, but I'm studying for exams and I find it hard press to find time to draw intensively much. I've recently bought alot of art educational books to strengthen my fundlementals (Andrew Loomis: Figure Drawing, Altas of Artistic Anatomy, Bridgemens Guide to Anatomy, Richard Schmid: Alla Prima) I'll add your reccomendations to my list.

I may aswell turn this into a semi-personal post about myself. I'm nearly 18 in a couple of months, as I said I'm going through exams at the moment, none of the subjects I feel benefit me (even art, I've never learnt anything at my school). I'm going to stop education all together (still teaching myself ofcourse) and just get as much work as I can as an artist, and have a dayjob too. I'm not going to spend any money and just save for a year, and hopefully move to Sweden to attend the Stockholm Atelier. By the time I have finished the course I'll have the fundlementals down and I can focus on getting freelance work as an illustrator and concept artist. All wishful thinking ofcourse, but this is my plan.

May aswell post something i'm working on at the moment, sort of inspired by Dave Rapoza's portraits, listening to his stream when I drew this. (its bad, I know)

Thank you both for the compliments, it means alot to have positive feedback

And my use of swag is kind of ironic I guess? It's a joke between a friend of mine but I've just kept on using it

I have this one small complain if u dont mind I wouldn't recommend u using so many different brushes at the sketching phases. I mean it's not a bad thing that u r tryin to implement different feels into ur works but if ur studying its better to use just one brush, thus keeping consistency in the piece. Its a great way to learn too. (only my personal opinion, however). For ex. #78, try not to use soft brushes there and finish it by just using one hard edged one. Good job on helmet, however, lighting-wise but the perspective is a little bit off. I guess if u used a reference better, u would have fixed that

After all it doesn't really matter what method u use to achieve the goal. The main thing is that it ends up what u were hoping for. We can just give u directions and recommend certain things, but the decisions are urs my friend =)

well, since uploading this I've made the canvas alot broader, it doesnt feel as clostrophobic, I'm just working on values and lighting and composition at the moment.

I don't find much merit in this style, but it's nice to just relax now and then and just do whatever.

Scrapping this image after Dave made me realize I was using totally messed up reference for it.

The lighting is well, unrealistic to say the least. I don't know what I was thinking when I started, it just looked like a cool picture to draw I guess. Doing more studies soon.

a while ago I saw a sketchbook with a skull study but the guy had some crazy colours going on, i definatly had that in mind when i painted this, so i dont take credit for originality. if anyone can tell me who it is i'm ripping off that'd be sweet because i cant remember the guys name.

this was a really quick thing anyway so it doesn't matter that much
