Thread: Mothanders Sketchbook
August 4th, 2011 #1
I've been around this site for a couple of years or so for inspiration, finally got around to make a user and start a sketchbook.
Last couple of years I've been studying game design in Stockholm, then worked at Overkill Software in Stockholm for 8 months, as a Leveldesigner/QA.
Recently decided to take up on my art and practice a lot, hopefully get better
Will probably start to take on some anatomy studies.
Really motivated and pumped to get working!
Would really appreciate some comments and criticism!
I'll start by adding a painting i did yesterday, more or less my first larger painting.

@takashmen, thanks ;D I'll give it my best!
Tried some new ways of rendering and came up with this.
Started of as a doodle and later became some sort of mechanical doll thingy, had a lot of fun with this one.

Training on some perspective drawing.
Have a lot of trouble getting things to a more detailed level.

hi thanks for dropping
if you have problems with details good option is to do some photo studies
(i don't know what thinks you like to paint but here are some links)
also i like to paint screen caps directly from movies ( the quality is better and you can capture every single moment)

Bacchus, roman head collector, steps
Hey everyone Been a while since i updated.
@takashmen - Tanks alot Been trying out some photostudies, and feels like they help out alot.
So I got an idea yesterday for a character based on Bacchus, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dionysus.
So I'll post the 3 steps i went through to the final painting.

Hi there, man and thanks a lot for stopping by my sketchbook!
I like your landscape drawings and you definitely have development in drawing characters!
Lemme give you some crits on the last character. It's if you're going to work further on this piece. As for me, you should give him bigger head, hands and feet because they're not big enough for his figure and make him look funny. Also you should give his right feet (the one which is not near the sack) the same direction as the knee of that leg has. Also try downloading some custom brushes from deviantart or whatever other webpage because using Photoshop's default brushes so directly doesn't seem a good idea to me.
Go on working and in a couple of years you'll definitely become a great artist! Good luck!

Did some quick poses and random anatomy stuff. Painted from imagination, should start using reference. Got alot to learn here.
Have a good weekend!

Been a while since i updated my sketchbook!
Anyway, here's a gun i just drew! It was the result of trying out photoshop cs6, so not really pleased with all the parts fitting together. Like the handle position et.c
Gonna throw in some stuff i did some months back aswell!

Orcish pyromancer dude.
Recently catched a cold, so spent a few hours painting this and sneezing all over the place.

dia de la muerta!
December 4th, 2012 #17
Post #15 is such a strong image. It's leaps and bounds above your other stuff. You may want to take a step back and ask yourself what was different about that approach (besides the cold and snot-sneezing ). Figure out what your approach was, what your inspiration was, how much time you spent on it, etc etc.
That's truly an awesome composition and rendering. Now do that on everything else! Good work, keep it up.
-I often post from my phone; so please excuse the typosSketchbook

@ Syle: Thanks alot! Yeah, will do captain!
Spent a couple of hours or so trying to paint from life and photos et.c. Having a real hard time, Especially getting the female faces to look as stunning as the photos i'm drawing from.

A study of the dude.
FInnished a quick(ish) study of the dude. I feel like im getting a bit more hang of it.
This is the picture i was using. https://images.nonexiste.net/popular...hday-Dude.jpeg
Can't say i really nailed that expression he's got, it was kinda tricky. Mine got a little more of a bad attitude, and a little less "dude"
December 7th, 2012 #20
I like Bacchus, Fishdragon and dude from your avatar a lot, I definitely see progress in your paintings. My subjective opinion about references - It's better to use some favorite famous artist's works to copy from rather then photos, for me it's a less disappointing way.

This is a gas driven gun with a tommygunish ammoclip. The silencer doesn't make very much sense considering its gasdriven. Perhapse the gas is just used for the firing mechanic. ANYWAY, night all!
December 19th, 2012 #24
Friend of mine wanted to make a 3d modell out of this gun, so i added some colors and redid some stuff.
