    WIP (Updated at 09, 16th)

    hello people from conceptart....

    I have started this picture to train digital painting since the beginning... I am quite new in this field, and I am get used to Photoshop as for the tablet...

    Once it is much more difficult to find out mistakes in our own work, I would like to receive your comments about the qualiy of this piece, specially for:

    -tonal values;
    -rendering techniques;
    -lights and shades;

    Also, some advices about the composition could be good.

    As an aditional information, I took about 1,5 hours to get it...

    Best regards

    This is a very good start! And I can not wait to see finished version.
    Here are some things I just wanted to point out to help make this piece become more epic than it is ^.^

    Here is my take for your work:

    Ceteri, thanks for your help, I am trying to fix your pointed out

    In this moment, I am posting an update, it has some fixes, but it has a lot of work to do before finishing... but, at least, it is being very funny to experience new features and to find out some tools of Photoshop.

    please, give me your comments

    Well it is looking alot better.

    Here are a couple more things I want to point out.
    1. The hat, the way the lighting hits it makes it look like its made of plastic.
    Reference for beanie lighting: http://resources.shopstyle.com/sim/0...light-grey.jpg

    2. Last thing is the skin looks REALLY oily. Really focus the way lighting hits skin.

    And that's it, everything else is looking nice!

    PS: Define that ear a bit more.

    Hello,

    Today, I came to draw outside my house, but I forgot the pen of the tablet... because of that, I tried to use just the mouse to get the update I am posting here...

    I hope to hear more comments...

    Ceteri... I tried to work in the oily skin as you said, but I got some difficults just using the mouse, anyway, returning home, I work more on this picture...

    also.... I will work in the ear later...

    best regards

    First off, get rid of all the pure black. Secondly, add a sense of his neck and shoulders. Thirdly, show all of his head and then crop the sides a bit so there isn't so much empty space. And last but not least, try and get some reference for the face, there are some anatomy issues.

    You didn't really fix anything. I'd suggest getting some reference.

    Yes... you are rigt... I had some problems in the past days, and because of it, I just could experience some features of Photoshop, not real work on fixing mistakes... once the problems are in the past, I will try to fix the errors...

    I am keeping in mind your comments as well the comments of Ceteri for the next ones...

    thanks a lot

    I think it would do good to get a reference and to draw his without the hat and with both eyes (it may be a good eye no matter how his real one looks like). Or just do a lot of head studies. You know too little of head structure right now.
    His nose is extremely wide (it's quite uncommon to have a nose with the width of mouth, especially within his race) and he has anime eyes. Well, at least one. It's huge.
    He needs a bigger skull to hold his brain as well.

    Do you try to fix it by yourself (again, using a reference is strongly recommended) or wish me to do an overpaint? I'm not so good but I have some head drawing skills already.

    By the way, I like the new mouth much better even in its current sketchy state. The whole expression is better, and the eye isn't unrealistically slanted And you did an important thing: you started again. Many beginners cling to their original for a long time in vain. I did that too but matured.

    shiNIN: you can make the overpaint if you want and if you have time... I will use it to fix my skecth and compare to what I am used to do...

    thanks a lot

    meanwhile, I am uploading an update I have made... I hope you enjoy

    it is probably I am going to restart it again in a different way

    I didn't draw the overpaint yet but I say a few words about your update.
    The mouth is quite good. The nose too but it's still oversized just like the eyes, they aren't in proportion with the smallish mouth and the whole head. He has a quite unusual shaped skull, heighest around the back.
    Your lighting is illogical. Choose a single light source. It's good you don't try to draw this in proper skin colors, anatomy and lighting are more than enough. For me, anatomy alone was more than enough for years (it still is if the viewer's angle is extreme) but it's hard to draw a head well without lighting...
