    Lines and dots - Sketchbook

Well here goes my sketchbook thread. I'll be putting up various things as I'm not really a one style sort of artist. I'm mostly trying to focus in comic strip, panel, or comic book kind of art. I'm intending to do a graphic novel one day and hopefully get it published. Please take a little time to comment and I'll do the same in return. Thanks! Here's an old pinup I did from an old comic series I worked on back in 06. My inking wasn't the greatest. I mostly like doing pencils.

I want a moderator to write me and explain why I can't post. That it's being reviewed. I'm not bumping, I'm just posting my stuff.

    Tried to post this

But maybe I'm posting too fast. Probably got flagged for whatever reason. I hope it takes this time. I got one more, then I'm done today.

Probably just because of the fact that you were putting multiple posts up so close to each other in the same thread. You can post multiple images in the same post you know.

I'm really enjoying your cartoons though. They feel somewhere between Far Side and Close to Home. Mmmm Far Side, uh sorry got distracted. Anyways, keep it up. I'll be keeping tabs on this thread. Any chance of some color work?

Thanks! Mm, it would be nice to have color in it. I don't have photoshop or anything fancy at the moment. It's on my to do list though. I'm not even sure if I would make a decent colorist anyway lol. I just grab the marker and go with it :>/.

    Wanted to ask..

Wanted to ask if anyone out there could color one of my cartoons with photoshop to see what it would look like if it was done with color added. Just had to be curious.

You could always try using Gimp if you want to go digital. It's a free photoshop equivalent. I'm not that good with it, but that's because of my (current) lack of skill. Or you could use markers, or pencils, or even crayons!

Hmm, I'll have to give that a look. I really don't want to mess with orginals specially since we do live in a digital age lol. Thank you Dorabletoon for pointing me in a good direction .

If you're interested in trying something with a more traditional look Artrage's demo is pretty nice (and it's a fairly inexpensive program if you decide to purchase). I kind of forgot about it because it doesn't have native Linux support, but if you're running Windows you should be good.

I played with that gimp program the other night. I'll have to get used to it, but it just seems like a fancier version of MS paint. I'm probably gonna have to really read through the tut file.

I wouldn't call gimp a glorified mspaint, but then again I haven't really used mspaint since the 90s so it could have improved since then.

There are additions that you can download, one's called gimpshop (meant to help imitate photoshop even further) and there's also a gimp-paint addition (mostly a bunch of "natural" brushes).

Play around with the paintbrush, and airbrush tools. Change the opacity. And yeah, read through the tutorial. Check google/devaintart/youtube for other tuts and examples of what gimp is capable of.

    Some sketchwork

I did up a page really fast. I'm not really good with inks or colors. But I do love bold inks like in The Walking Dead comics. I'm actually looking for someone who can doctor up sketches like this and make it pop. If anyone knows someone who is looking for a penciler please lemme know.

Well, I decided to give it a shot (digitally as my printer's out of ink so I can't really attempt traditional without a lot more tracing than I feel up to tonight).
There are two versions (obviously) one that leaves your pencils in (which gives it a pretty nice grey tone) and one that took out the layer your pencils were in.

I really don't think it came out any better than if you had done it though. I need a lot more practice.

No bad, sorry to hear about your printer, mines in no better of shape, it's missing a back panel. The paper just shoots out the other side XD. I saw some sick stuff done with photoshop on youtube. Some guy was inking some drawing with it, then colored it. But without the colors, it was pretty impressive. I'm sure he had to been using some sort of digital pad thingy to do it with. I'm wanting like very dark inks, even in the backgrounds. Make it look very gritty and gothic sorta looking. Try your hand at this one if you want. I was going to sketch up another page but somehow that didn't happen today, too much was going on .

I really like your political cartoon-style comics! The two newer ones you posted are also really nice, it's good to see different styles from the same artist Keep up the great work!

Thanks! Yeah just kinda depends on what I'm wanting to do as my creative outlet. Probably going to screw me though because it's not a consistant kind of thing. Guess I might have to do a single panel funny today.

    Some old stuff.

Here's some older things I began on like almost a year ago. If I ink, I like to ink dark and plenty of it. I don't consider myself to be a great inker, but I don't have any help. What do you all think?

    Old sketch

Here's an old sketch based off of some comic. Can't remember what one it was. Just was used as reference.
