    Ottawa Drawing Meetup

    Hey everybody,

Pixie Trick and I were talking of meeting up to get some drawing done and decided it would be fun if more people in the area were to join us. This isn't going to be a Local Artist Group , but rather a one time meetup.

If anybody is in the Ottawa area and wants to join us feel free! Just leave a comment in this thread so we have an idea of who is going and how many people will be there. Anybody and everybody is welcome, regardless of skill level.

We are going to be meeting and drawing at The Canadian Museum of Nature. There are dinosaurs and skeletons and birds and mammals and fossils and a whole bunch of other stuff there to draw--stuff to keep everyone interested.

    Stuff To Bring:
    -Sketchbook
    -Pencils, erasers
-A travel/folding stool (so you can set up and sit down anywhere to draw)

    When:
-NOON, in front of building (inside lobby if raining)--Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Cost (there is an entry fee for the museum):
    -$10 for Adults
    -$8 for Students

DINOSAURS!!!! And if you come for nothing else, the place looks like a castle that's had a giant glass cube smashed into the middle.

I'd be interested, I will have to check my schedule to see if I can make it, and I'll see if my gf is interested too.

I'll probably come, I just don't have one of those foldable chair things so it might be a bit more difficult for me. Last time I was at a sketch meet I just drew standing up.

I tend to just plop myself down wherever, but the problem with museums is that all the handrails and plaques are right between you and what you want to see as well as having a weird perspective on everything when you're sitting. Standing is no fun at all either. I've been contemplating getting some sort of folding stool for a while now as I have a collapsible easel that's downright handy.

You could get one at Wal-Mart for like, $12...I opted out because I'm just going to bring my moleskine, though. It's like the perfect little travel book

I personally think a folding stool is an absolute necessity. It's too hard to draw and stand (especially for any longer period of time), and when sitting on the ground you get weird angles and it gets uncomfortable fairly quickly. So yeah, a little travel stool is a worthy investment if you plan on doing any sort of drawing or painting at galleries, museums or outside.

Ok, two questions. First, if I make cookies, what type? Second, what time to meet? Morning, afternoon?

Cookies?! You are too nice As for type--anything is fine. You should probably find out about nut allergies and stuff first, but my favourite involve peanut butter.

Timing wise I am thinking that perhaps starting early afternoon would be best. That way we don't have to stop and be interrupted with having to find lunch, and people can stay for either a long time or can leave early.

I've got to get back to my town by 6 so I'll be leaving by 5 as well. Shall we say 12 or 1?

We can try 12 just because it gives the option of more time to stay for those that need to leave early. Also, shall we just meet in front of the building? Or inside?

In front would make sense given the weather isn't too bad.
