    question ._.;

I don't know how to ask this right but...

Well, I was just wondering, besides actually being skilled as an artist when applying for a job do they do online background checks?

Since, well, I got trolled/cyberbullied a year back and this guy from my school used my full name and pics of myself to troll a bunch of forums in various sites to make me look like an arse.

So I'm a bit worried, if they ever did would I possibly be rejected because of this? Or would they even care? Would this not even apply to my application or would they just check to see if I was legitimate ( as far as artist skill goes)?

yea.. i know stupid question(s) but thank you so much!.

Well it probably doesnt take very long to do a google search and determine your person.
However they'll be looking at your artwork and if youre right for the job. The interview is where they will determine what kind of person you are.
Background doesnt really matter unless you murdered several of your previous employers. Makes sence to do a breif background check though, always good to know the person youll be working with. No?

Change your name if it's really bad stuff. Or start going by your middle name. Or use a pseudonym.

Online searches are pretty common for employers these days. No sense in getting screwed over.

What does that have to do with anything? You still can't publicize someone in a false light (if the information given out was true) or defame them (if it was false). They might also be able to nab the bully for identity theft, depending on the laws where he lives.

well long island NY is in the US lol

i dont think art employers care about your history as much, but if you ever decide to pursue something else or you need a part time job because your art job isn't going so greatly, then yeah this can matter. (and ALOT of artists have non-art jobs so this may matter)

i dont know what it's called, but you can be sued for slandering or sabotaging someone's identity. especially if it hurts their professional life.
    invasion of privacy, identity theft...
be ready to prove that this guy did this to you though, if you're gonna take legal action. and its a pain in the ass. :/

you said you have your pics floating online, right? then it's pretty pointless getting a mere nickname. you can go ahead and change your name, but it takes alot of work because then you have to notify your credit card holders, banks, change your driver's license, get new government issued ID, etc.... a lot of work.

i have a feeling that the guy who pulled this shit on you gonna do this to someone else in the future

Yeah that's kinda my point. There are people giving legal advice but don't know. Before you tell someone to sue someone else consult people who would know. Less of a headache that way.

The person also has to know who the person was and prove it.

There is no doubt that they would do a background check, but if you are good at something then something stupid like some guy trolled with your name (I think that's what you said) shouldn't cause too much trouble, especially considering it was a year ago.

My mother was a lawyer for like 25 years and I'm not sure you'd have grounds to sue (not in England anyway), also it costs a lot of money to sue someone so you're gonna have to weigh up wether or not its worth it (how much money does the other guy have? etc..).
You also wanna be sure that this guy was and is enough of an arsehole for you to want to ruin his life (which being sued can do) and you also wanna be prepared to lose, its a lot of money to waste.

If you lose out on a job because of it then go ahead and find out if you can sue him. Until then you wouldn't be able to get enough in damages to be worth it.
