Lovely stuff in here! I really enjoy your silhouettes, especially. I should start doing those myself.

I wanna see more of those aquatic people, I like them!

Looks to me like you're on the right track! Glad I checked out this sketchbook.

Thank you Andrew L. Lauren, Jaik and littlebones for your really kind comments .

Just started this today. I know I need to do more studies than I have been, but I figured it's better to draw something I want than not draw at all! I want to keep working on it and get a finished piece, but I'll probably get studies done during the week.

I can't seem to get the colour scheme right - it just feels like there's something lacking... If anyone could give me any tips I'd be really grateful!

Quick gesture drawings - 45 seconds to 2 minutes each. First time I've done these and it was a lot of fun!

Sorry for the bad quality - I don't have my scanner .

Can't help with the colour scheme - but just wanted to say that I really like where that piece is going - looking forward to seeing how it shapes up.

Glad you are enjoying painter so much.
Post #34. I'd say go for cool colors on the lips/eyes/ears instead or why not play around with color adjustment in ps, see what works?

    Alizak: thank you!

CarbonBased: thanks, I'll give that a go this weekend when I work on it again .

    --

Had a really hectic week last week so didn't have much time/energy in the evenings, hence no posts .

Going back to landscape studies as this is something I really need to practice. This is from a reference. I'm feeling progression (even if it is slow), and actually starting to enjoy them !

Some stuff from this weekend. Continued work on the piece I started last weekend. Not very happy with how it's going, but at least I'm learning from it...

The other two are for a game I'm sort of designing.

    That landscape study is great!
The lady from post#34 is looking very evil now. I might be biased, for a good reason ha ha, but I like how it turned out with blue around her eyes and on her ears.
I rather like the drawing of her. See how far you can push it. : )

You have some interesting characters designs in here. You're really good at drawing the silhouettes.
The piece you're currently working on is coming along nicely, I like the color scheme. Keep it up!

Yes...as others have said...you are creating some interesting characters. This one caught my eye.

I've never worked anything up from a silhouette...but I like what you're doing! Another thing I'll have to try sometime!

    Keep 'em coming!

CarbonBased: Thanks . I think the blue works much better - thank you for the advice! I wasn't going to carry on with it but I'll give it another go now.

    Rustveld: Thank you!

Jephy X: Thanks! I started doing it to try and push my designs so they look more interesting. I just need to continue the process now and get a finished character from it .

    --

Was feeling a bit down about my last post but the comments have really made me feel better and encouraged me to keep going . I've been ill today and yesterday, but as I can get out of bed today I managed to get this done. Just from imagination - didn't really have anything in mind. Rather embarrassed I worked on it for 2 hours - it looks like so much less than that!

    Thanks for your nice comment!
Whooah, I think I like everything I've seen here so far! Really good-looking and creative concepts, and I really really like your shading.
The art you have as your avatar, that's my favourite. I love this mixture of colours/light on her face.
Waiting for more, I will be definitely coming back - to admire and to learn!

That last sketch is really nice.
It's not as rough and unfinished as most others.
The slight tint of blue/green in the darks makes it even better.
    Really nice job there.
Your Landscapes look promising too...actually I like them better then you humanoids. some foreground or crisp details might help improve the environments.
    Keep it up.

    Ninsei: Thank you very much!!

Shockowaffel: Thanks . I agree about the landscapes - will try that in the future!

    --

More silhouettes - going to develop one of these into a finished piece (I'm determined!). Not sure which one though...

Figure concepts and silhouettes are looking good.
But take care of your anatomy.
It's kind of easy to hide anatomy issues with clothing, flames or blurrish paint.

Keep practicing all these fundamental knowledge until your hand hurts

Those are some nice silhouettes you've got there. Numbers 1 and 3 look like they could
be from a fight scene. The second silhouette is nice too, the only thing that
I want to point out is that it looks as though she is staring off at the
distance. I think it would be nice if you made her staring at the viewer, but
that could just be my own personal preference.

Your rendering has improved a lot since the first page. You're on a roll! I just
love that image you posted on feb 22nd. Also I am really liking how this image
is coming along. Don't get discouraged! I think you've got a nice character
design there and I can't wait to see the end result. (that is, if you do decide to finish it)

All in all a very nice sketchbook. Keep working on that mileage.

Silwynar: Thank you for the comment! Yeah, I am a bit guilty of that . Practice, practice, practice!

Elisele: Thanks for stopping by ! That's a really good point - if I put more detail into that one I will make her look at the viewer. I'm really not sure about that other piece though, hehe! Thanks again!!

Sleepingrabbit: Thank you very much !

More work on the fiery spirit character. Trying to explore a few costume ideas (my original idea was to design a fire character for a game like Soul Calibur). I think I like 4 and 5 so going to continue with those for colours/more detail then choose one from there.

Love your silhouettes! They are sooo cool already Now you should focus on making even cooler paintings out of them.
I can see great improvement on the environments. Nice job!

    Ninetales: Thank you!

I chose to work on number 5 from the sketches in the last post. I've worked out the colour scheme separately, but it's very messy so I'm not posting it here :p. Instead, here's a close-up of the face so far. Spent about 2 hours on it this evening, and I used a reference to help.

She's meant to be fiery, so I'm not going for realistic skin colours! And I've only just started on the hair .

Great character designs, looking forward to seeing the finished version of this one. Which colours did you end up combining?

Jondawo: Thanks You can see the colours I chose below!

More work on this piece. Need to sort out her hands and feet and work out what I'm going to do with the fire on her hands - I don't want it to look cheesy. A fair bit more work to do on other bits, but I feel fairly proud of my progress so far . Her legs are a bit off, but I think that's something I'll have to practice for the next piece at this point.

Finished this one. I got rid of the fire on the hands and feet because I just couldn't get it to look right, and I thought ashes was a cooler idea anyway. Still not happy with the hands and feet - more practice needed here .

Looks good! For the fire I think, you should have taken a dark background, so the light of the fire can emanate.

PontusEuxinus: Thanks Yeah I totally agree - something to learn for next time I think!

    --

Haven't really been feeling it this week. Stressful time at work means I really want to have a better portfolio together to start applying for art jobs, but my confidence feels really low right now.

Just a quick doodle - was watching LA Ink at the time so it turned into some kind of tattoo design, heh.

Some pretty poor thumbnails for a treehouse environment. I'm roughly using references while doing the thumbnails to work out various details which I think is helping me learn a lot. They look pretty bad for how long I spent on them and how drained I now feel though!

I think you worked out the composition quite nicely on those and I like the way you showed the difference between the strong and diffuse lighting.

You could try doing some composition studies in thumbnail format from movies still etc. to help you improve
