    Grow as an Artist

    Greetings!

I'm trying to start a new art community website. It's basically your standard fare as far as art websites go but with a few tweaks. For example, in order to post artwork you need to spend points. In order to build points, you need to critique other people's artwork.

Art with no critiques on it gives the critiquer more points.

Users who have a higher (or lower) karma rating receive more (or less) points for their critiques.

By generally limiting the amount of art that people can upload we hope that people will be more selective with their upload choices.

That's the general gist of the idea. The site is fully built (mostly), but has basically nothing on it. So if it interests you, please try it out. We're still in a Beta phase, so feedback on how to adjust the point system or other general suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks.

Ok... heres the thing, whats going to make people want to go to your site? awesome artwork right? so some awesome artist comes to your site and says i might make a post.. oh wait what? i have to crit other people first? wtf, fuck this im leaving. So now all you have to get more traffic is bad artwork. See the problem?

Also by limiting what people can post is another turn off. Not to mention the people just spamming crappy crits so they can post. Ive had experience with this sort of idea on another site... it didn't go well.

The overall goal is to encourage constructive feedback on the artwork with the point system. I view this site as a tool for artistic improvement rather than a basic portfolio.

As for the first time visit scenario, new users are initially awarded enough points to post two pieces of art. After that, then yes, users will have to contribute to the community and help one another improve.

Unsatisfactory critiques should be taken care of with the karma system. Users can mark critiques as good/bad to enforce a level of quality. Karma is also used to determine how many points you get when you critique something, so there is even more to strive for when helping somebody.

If you have answer more questions, feel free. Thanks a lot.

Me? I'm trying to start a new religion.

I'm busy writing the Book Of Kamber which corrects the many errors in L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics.

The work is slow-- I'm using a special set of headphones an angel gave me that allows me to take dictation from my neighbor's cat.

When I'm done, all you'll need to do is buy my book and believe-- no Hubbard pyramid scam--

    sola scriptura I say,

all you'll need is The Book and a place for Xenu in your heart. . .

so i cant post freely, and i am forced to critic other art work in order earn the right to post some more and repeat?? meh.... i'll stay here

-We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

-Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em.
