    Swampy Roots

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Not sure about the canvas shape. (too flat?)

Also, I'd like to add a creature or human in the picture, but I don't see a way to do that without making it taller.

There's probably some other issues that I'm not aware of...

creatively, I feel like I've hit a wall.

    any ideas?

I like the depth effect and the textures are great too.

What bothers me is that the dark root in the center/ foreground is a little flat.
At first I thought it was going into the back with the one root going down into the water, but on the 2nd sight I thought it just goes to the right...
Try to make the actual 3dimensional shape clear. Use light or depth effect, overlapping shapes... you already seem to know the possibilitys. ^^

A thing to try out: Soften the edges in the outer picture parts, especialls in the branches on the left. Should make the picture a little bit easier to read.

Hope it helps. Keep it up

the top edge of the upper branch/root cuts off abruptly and seems to slice the vines off since they share an edge rather than having the vines wrap around and have volume. It is hard to tell if the vertical extension goes into the water or just dangles ahead of the water. I agree about softening the branches on the left hand side. There is sharp focus there for no apparent reason.

Adding people largely depends on what scale you want. Do you want the swamp to be giant or regular size?
