    National Lampoon's Vacation cover art

I just grabbed this movie on blue ray out of one of those bins at a certain evil box store...this must have been mentioned on here somewhere...but what the hell happened to the cover art!?

and holy sh!t..., how on earth does the guy that stitched together the new cover have a job in design at all? pixilated fuzzy foreground mountains with crisp higher contrasted background mountains ect..

maybe someone here knows the reasoning..

    original

    what the hell version

I think the better question is why you'd buy that film in the first place.

You'd definitely be in the minority disliking that movie. It's right up there with Caddyshack and Ghostbusters for most people when it comes to classic comedies.

I've actually never seen it but I saw NL's Van Wilder and a couple of others and they were all trash.

    Dude...
Remind me to never talk to you about any movies pre 1990, apparently.

The Vacation movies should not be lumped in with any of the other National Lampoon movies (with the exception of maybe Vegas Vacation). It's Chevy Chase at his absolute prime.
Christmas Vacation? Hello? How is that not a yearly tradition in your house?

If it isn't you are missing out.

Still better than most movie covers these days. At least something's HAPPENING in it. At least we can get an inkling of an idea of what the movie is about..!

EDIT: didn't see you'd already attached it, here's a bigger version anyway.

For comparison, the original Boris poster:

The Ebert has CONDEMNED your yearly film to average. You shall now walk with shame!

    (*ahem* ANIMAL HOUSE *ahem*)

It's really sad that NL is just known as a crappy brand name for crappy movie comedies today. In the seventies, both the magazine and its other media spinoffs were absolutely revolutionary.

That Boris work is..and yes despite the mass over use and watered down effect the word has these days, I cant think of a better word for this particular movie cover/poster..but... EPIC lol

Dusty, lol we do the Christmas vacation thing every Christmas as well lol,

So maybe some one can explain why with all the great artists out there that fewer movie covers utilize their talent instead opting for what looks like some computer class work their 12 year old nephew through together? and on that note the same with novels...every time i go into a book store i see less and less art and more bad photo clusters?,
