    CHoW#251 :: VOTING :: Steampunk Coppélia

Design a steampunk, dancing doll from the Ballet Coppélia
    DEADLINE: SUNDAY, July 10th 2011
Deadline is Sunday, at 9:00 pm (GMT+1) Check your timezone!
    DESCRIPTION
Coppélia was a lifesize, dancing doll created by a mad inventor to be his companion. She was so beautiful and perfect that many people thought she was a real person and fell madly in love with her. The inventor loved her so much that he tried to perform a magic ritual to bring her to life by stealing the lifeforce of another person. This weeks challenge is to create a design for this perfect lifesize doll but with a twist;- we would like you to create a steampunk based design with lots of steam and brass and pseudo-victorian mad science! The illustration of the piece is just as important as the development of the character so plan your image carefully! As always, images which are not well developed will not make it to the poll!

    Things to remember:
    • Think about the inllustration of the piece But do not forget the character design!
    • Although the original Coppélia was female, you are free to make them either Male OR female.
    • Try to make the design interesting and think about all the amazing machinery you could create in the steampunk style.
    • The story is a mix of science, magic and love so try to include it in your design.

    The Overheating Dancer

The evil lab master makes his steam punk doll dance all day and night, no wonder she's breaking down! Hydrolic oil squirting from her over worked arm.

I wondered how steampunk could be fascinating.
And the answer that i foundo is: "The beauty is an illusion"

This was awesome fun to do !! even though stereotypically she might be a ballet dancer (?) but i wanted to go for a belly dancer , sword balancing , puppet-doll version of coppelia instead
    FINAL :

    and WIPs

idea came from reference images like >>

and more by searching "belly dancer sword" on google images . any comments and criticism will really help

At the end of the night the clockwork dancer will belong to the highest bidder. She must dance beautifully to make as much as she can for her creator. She must make them love her.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the
mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all
science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who
can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.

My first time doing a CHOW. Got a late start, but I am pretty happy with the result. Some awesome concepts here from everyone.

Lots of great entries this week and a great topic. Changed the position because I decided to go with the 'ballet' pose part of it (too good to miss), now I'm wondering if I made the right decision??

    Steampunk Coppélia

Steampunk Coppélia! Wanted to create a scene where Coppélia would have onlookers watching her, maybe in amazement but maybe also in confusion.
