    Colgate's Scribbly Area

Hi there! Here's the preamble: I'm not good at art. I don't really know what I'm doing. However, I want to improve and eventually make a career out of it. (I'm not quite sure what I want to go into- concept art obviously interests me the most.) I'm creating this sketchbook so others may provide guidance as well as as kicking my own ass to get it into gear. I'm a high school student, for future reference. Please, feel free to give me any advice you believe to be even remotely helpful, point out things I'm doing wrong, tell me where my focus should be- be a dick, even, if you think it will move me forward.

I apologize in advance for my lack of both a scanner and photography skills. I'll try my best to update often (hopefully every other day- at the very least once a week).

Good start, I'm at the start myself, so it's all about taking in the information and applying it to what ever your drawing. Have fun creating and being creative.

Nothing is shouting at me that is too obvious, but then I'm learning so not to great to tell you..
However, I look forward to seeing you grow.

    Regards

Grr. I've been too distracted and didn't get much done. Here's me getting frustrated at hands and faces, among other things. Snuck some yoitisi into there as well. I wonder if I'm bouncing around too many subjects too quickly. (I have other pages that are simply lines, circles, and scribbles. Didn't consider them worth putting up.)

Steveland - Thanks, they were especially infuriating. And yes, that is a pony in the corner. Expect many little ponies to be creeping through my pages. :D

So I haven't been working nearly as hard as I'd like to, and today I barely had time to get anything done. On the bright side, though, I finally convinced my mother to talk about my future- and she seemed alright with what I was suggesting, much to my surprise. There was doubt, of course, but there wasn't any screaming or arguing. Which I'm happy about. It's certainly given me a boost.

My main issue has been simply not knowing what to draw. I know I need to push those anatomy studies.

[ Edit: What's with the smilie. I can't get rid of it. *stabs with a sword* ]

Small update, unfortunately. Though those still lives did take a bit of time. I'd have done more work but I've been too busy shitting my pants over my (first) job interview coming up. I really need some more money for proper art supplies, college, etc., but I kind of have social anxiety. Hopefully I won't totally balls it up. Not sure if that crumpled piece of paper is readable or just a mess of values; next time I'll need to spend more time accurately mapping out the planes. That bottle also looks very lopsided now that I look at it. I quite like how most of the mannequins turned out, though.

Started draw 100 (or more) hands. I'm probably not ready for colour yet. The ponies were mainly to help me get used to the tablet again.
They're just so fun to draw. :<

Not sure why the quality is so bad; I should probably stop using HB.

Good stuff! I would definitely say I see improvement, and you're doing the important thing by working on your anotomy and taking time to learn posturing and those oh-so-difficult hands. That's something I skipped early on, and my art suffered for it. I'll enjoy watching you improve. So far, so good!
