    Skybox question

I've always been interested in skybox art and matte painting. Typically, how big are those documents when implemented into the game? or, what's the typical size you would make the document in Photoshop?

In Source the 2D skyboxes are modified photos. I can't look it up right now, but later tonight I'll go into Hammer and see for you. Probably 2k or 4k for current gen. The 3D skyboxes use low res geometry and textures + a 2D sky texture. I also think there are some volume particles used to simulate low clouds, but I can't be sure on that.

I always work bigger and then shrink. So 4k or 6k squares should work. Look up HDR images. If I'm not mistaken, those are pretty damn close to what's used for a skybox.
