Some early thoughts here on the D&D art test, Test 3. (I'm also planning to do the first one, but hey.) Aiming for city guard, but these are just a couple of early iterations; not enough that says "guard" to me yet, as opposed to just a random person. The examples given are so colourful, it's worrisome to try and tone it back a bit, but some earlier attempts at crazy colour schemes lost the look of a uniform. Eh. Hopefully the pose and scene in the final will help sell it?

Also I was itching to paint a face so I grabbed this one. (This has nothing to do with where I'm actually going with the real picture. I just felt like painting a sour-looking middle-aged woman.) Looking at it now, I botched the light in her cheek area, they're sticking out way too much.

    Gpozzo - Thank you!

Hayden Zammit - Thanks and you're welcome!

Soooo I'm kind of unhappy; I had managed to post daily in an unbroken chain since January 1st, and have now missed two days running. Being too sick to get out of bed is a pretty good excuse, but still. Feels bad, man.

More or less okay now, though, poking away at the D&D Art Test stuff again. A couple more (fairly bad) iterations, and then what is probably my final design.

Struggling with the colours. The references provided are super colourful, but they read like a nobleman and a caster of some sort, wheras I imagine a city guard uniform would be a lot more, uh, uniform. Not sure whether I went too crazy with colours, or not crazy enough, who knows. May change my mind about everything tomorrow.

I have no idea why I started painting it up when this is just for my own reference, the final will be a different drawing in a proper composition. I... felt like it, I guess.

Bluh bluh Drawing Script. 60s/90s/120s. I really need to start doing some longer ones, 2 minutes max is good for a warmup, but less good when I never do any studies between that and a full-on painting.

rumpenstiltzkin - Thanks! Not sure if you're right about the arms, or if it's an illusion caused by the fact the legs are sort of crazy long. (I realized pretty late in the game that she was over eight heads high, but didn't make much effort to fix it since it's just a design thing.)

Some clothing study things from the Sartorialist!

TO DO: Shoe studies. Ancillary to do: go through this SB and find a list of all these studies I said I was going to do and/or people suggested I do and then actually do them.

The plan was to draw a bunch of torsos from memory but most of them sucked and then I got sidetracked and I accidentally a deva. My fixation on a semi-obscure proprietary D&D race continues.

Look I had a bad day don't judge me.

Also tomorrow (or soon) is torso studies but not from memory, because I have realized that I do not understand them nearly as well as I thought.

Hey Rev, Thanks for stopping by my SB. So far so good, keep up the studies and I'm enjoying the D&D art test stuff. I might just throw my hat into the ring on that one too.
    Good Stuff!

kuumehike - Thank you very much!

Wheeljack18 - Thanks! If you do the art test, you should check out the challenge version of it on the ArtOrder blog. =)

No torsos today, instead progress on the art test! I usually don't post ref unless it's myself, but I got permission this time. Ref photo is my friend Aggy who is a super good sport and even provided her own stunningly appropriate boots from an old cosplay.

MeteorCat - Thanks! The floor might be changing a lot, actually, because it's sort of overtextured and has kind of a bird poop thing going on.

UPDATE, hardly had a chance to work on this today, deadline inc, aaaaaaaa.
