Some 2/2/2s - first 2 in each row are traced, second 2 reffed, third 2 made up. Traced/reffed ones are Serenity screencaps again, for reasons.

Another Serenity screencap, struggled, overworked it to the point of lifelessness without fixing the inaccuracies, just generally having a bad art day I guess.

Maybe tomorrow this SB page will have something I don't hate.

On the plus side, had a pretty sweet Victoria Day.

    Hey Rev .. still rocking!

Quick comment .. for readability and compositional purposes you may want to avoid tangents like where the line for the nose meets the line of the cheek. Its a quicker/easier read if it were to overlap rather than touch if that makes sense (so the head would be turned fractionally or whatever)

rumpenstiltzkin - Thanks, yeah, starting with tracing is sort of weird, but I find it helps a lot with getting into the rhythms of the face for the reffed and made up ones.

Whirly - Thanks, and good point, I'll watch for that.

Messed up the foreground on this one a little more; I think it's a lot more convincingly grassy now.

Something new! I really like some of the blocky, solid studies on Hannes' blog, and wanted to try it for myself. It was honestly way more fun than I thought, concentrating on getting the colours right instead of blending and the like. Definitely going to do more of these.

Natalia Soleil - Nope, no colour picking! (Okay, a couple of times to check that I was on the right track. 98% no colour picking.) The point of the exercise is getting better at seeing colours, and, uh... sometimes it takes quite a few shots before it looks right. D:

Here's like 15 minutes of gestures to satisfy the gods of daily posting. I spent a while drawing some stupid stuff I don't want to post, so this is going up instead.

Quick, not-super-finished figure study. The head and hands are particularly half-assed, the rest is not terrible. Ref from Characterdesigns.

DAILY POSTING MEANS POSTING STUFF I HATE SOMETIMES.

Worked all day, and then played D&D until the wee hours, and so all I could think of to draw in the middle of the night was D&D stuff. Angry McYellypants* here just had a really bad day.

Last nights post now, for reasons.

Went to lifedrawing for the first time in a couple of months! It runs so rarely here, and may be going on summer hiatus, as only 3 of us showed up, and it only ended up running for an hour and a half. Great model, though.

    Attachment 1491526

As stated previously, I am slowly forgetting how to draw with a pencil, and it's worrisome.

We don't get much life drawing around here either but it's so great when there is one happening. Your lines are superb!

MeteorCat and walnut, thanks! I feel like my pencil lines are sort of scribbly and unconfident these days, heh. Too used to digital now, maybe.

Another quickie figure study, maybe an hour-ish? I wasn't planning to do something with such dramatic lighting, but it was too cool a ref not to use.

Quick photostudy. I like the foreground and background, and hate the midground, so that's 2/3 of a win, I guess.

Not sure if this is getting better or worse. Worked on it for like 2 hours, and there's very little visible difference from the last version because I spent the whole time fiddling, doing and undoing various things. Blarg.

maolaosan - Uh... thanks, I think?

I've had an extremely busy few days in my day job as a freelance graphics monkey, and so at 4 in the morning, with my computer tied up by After Effects' rendering grind, I did a few sketchbook gestures in ballpoint by running the Drawing Script off my iPod. Scanned just a few of them, because they were kind of bad. It was 4 AM and I was falling asleep.

You are doing very well. Just study a bit from life and it will be even better.
My main concern in the last image is the strange shape of his right arm. I'm missing elbow there.

    Cheers and keep it up

merl1n - I think you commented here before saying I needed more study from life. You were right then, and you're right now. I need to stop making excuses.

You inadvertently left two crits on the last image; she's supposed to be female. There is now more obvious boobage. =)

    <3. - Thanks!

Slow progress. I'm not sure the arm is right now, but it's certainly less wrong.
